Bride In Ice Boots

This is such a beautiful place, with the sun shining through the glass panels into the church and the awesome view outside. We just adore this set of photos. Don’t you think the bride looked great just being herself with those UGG boots? White and pastel blue bridesmaids’ dresses were definitely the perfect choice for the snowy mountain backdrop, and the cake topper that looked like a miniature version of the couple was just too cute – a conversation starter for sure. Two thumbs up!

Cavanagh Photography: “I never knew spring in New South Wales could be so cold! I think the temperature peaked at one degree Celsius. Sarah and Andrew love the snow, and a snowy mountain wedding was perfect for them. The wedding ceremony was held at Mary Mackillop Chapel in Thredbo village.

“After the ceremony, we headed to the top of the mountain via chairlift for some photos – amazing views and some of the most challenging shooting conditions we’ve encountered. At some places the snow was so deep that every step you took sent you knee deep into snow. Sarah was an amazing bride and nothing fazed her, not even dodging snow balls thrown by the bridal party.”

A Token Of Love

It might have been windy but who could complain about getting married at the beautiful signature Cliff-Edge Sunset Cabana at Alila Villas Uluwatu? Grace and Francis really are a sweet couple, and we could feel their quiet, genuine love through each of these photos.

Besides the Cartier Love Bracelet, a token of his love to her, they also exchanged cards that they’d written to each other. Today, more than a celebration of pretty weddings, we’re celebrating true love.

Grace: “Our wedding wasn’t perfect. It was windy, guests were stuck in traffic and jetlagged, I probably had a few bobby pins loose, some lanterns went out, and we couldn’t find our ‘first dance’ song so the band just improvised while we moved from side to side. But it was the loveliest day ever.

“For the ceremony, we had a string trio play classical music, and for the reception, we had an acoustic band. The live music made it feel even more personal, and accentuated the intimacy of our celebration.

“In terms of the decorations, Alila Villas Uluwatu is so beautiful there wasn’t any additional work required. We kept it simple and added personal touches by creating a soundtrack for the guests and giving them handmade favours – earrings for the ladies and cufflinks for the gents.

“I wish I could pinpoint a beautiful moment and describe it poetically, but the truth is the day flew by and all I remember is feeling really happy and laughing a lot.

“One thing I do remember clearly is, after all the guests had left, we returned to our room and there was a plateful of our wedding cake, staring at us. We just sat on the bed and ate it all.”

Tips from the bride: “Hire good photographers and videographers. You won’t remember a thing from your wedding but their work will help you relive your day.”

A Union In Amsterdam

Here in Amsterdam, in the serene garden of Orangerie Elswout in Overveen, we celebrate the union of Varsha, a girl from Amsterdam, and Deepak, a guy from Den Haag. The Orangerie Elswout is the largest orangery in the Netherlands. Once a favourite retreat of merchants, it is now a unique venue for weddings. Watch Varsha walk down the aisle and mark her milestone moment in this gorgeous place, and enjoy the video.

Julia and James chose this venue right in the heart of Melbourne’s central business district because of its great cityscape. Julia and James wanted a warm, relaxed party and indeed they achieved that. It was a great celebration with family and friends. One of their friends even wrote a poem for them, titled ‘One Saturday in May’. Here’s an excerpt:

“So this is where it all starts
as a hundred stand in a circle around you today
(who would all do the same again tomorrow)
and there are more out there,
    swelling with pride
    that these two
    our two
will keep each other’s hearts glowing,
    warm and beating
    beyond 365 more nights
    but on
    and on
    and on
    and on…”

As the bride is from a Polish background, the couple also incorporated a few Polish touches into the wedding. Besides a Polish blessing, guests sang the traditional celebration song ‘Sto Lat’ all night.

As the photographer said, “It was at James and Julia’s wedding that I came to a revelation of what the statement ‘love is a friendship set on fire’ really means”.

He made everyone laugh and cry at the same time, but not because he’s an entertainer. From the moment we saw Bernard on the verge of tears as his bride Jo Lin came down the spiral staircase of Hotel Maya, we knew it was going to be a very emotional affair.

We really wanted to put the wedding in perspective. That is why the vows meant everything to us. And to say our vows in front of our loved ones and close friends meant everything” – The groom

And indeed it was. Bernard and Jo Lin both wrote their own vows, each word true and from their hearts. With wedding vows like these, no one could deny the couple’s love for each other. Watch the video and you’ll know what we mean.

Tips: If you are thinking about writing your own vows, watch this video but don’t steal their lines. The point of customising your wedding vows is to write in your own words your promise to your spouse. Do prepare in advance and read it over and over again so that you’re familiar with it. On your wedding day, the piece of paper is only there to remind you, not for you to read from it. In fact, if you can, you should be looking into the eyes of your spouse!

Cyan, magenta, yellow… As graphic designers, we often work with the colour coding CMYK, but we’ve never thought of using it as a colour theme. One shouldn’t have to try too hard when it comes to wedding ideas, as often they come from objects we see in our everyday life.

Blessed indeed is this couple who had a group of good friends from church that made their DIY-wedding possible. Of course, we should also mention that Aaron is a graphic designer himself, while Chrystin is a multimedia executive. They handmade most of their stuff or added little details to things they’d bought for a personal touch.
