Julia and James chose this venue right in the heart of Melbourne’s central business district because of its great cityscape. Julia and James wanted a warm, relaxed party and indeed they achieved that. It was a great celebration with family and friends. One of their friends even wrote a poem for them, titled ‘One Saturday in May’. Here’s an excerpt:

“So this is where it all starts
as a hundred stand in a circle around you today
(who would all do the same again tomorrow)
and there are more out there,
    swelling with pride
    that these two
    our two
will keep each other’s hearts glowing,
    warm and beating
    beyond 365 more nights
    but on
    and on
    and on
    and on…”

As the bride is from a Polish background, the couple also incorporated a few Polish touches into the wedding. Besides a Polish blessing, guests sang the traditional celebration song ‘Sto Lat’ all night.

As the photographer said, “It was at James and Julia’s wedding that I came to a revelation of what the statement ‘love is a friendship set on fire’ really means”.

He made everyone laugh and cry at the same time, but not because he’s an entertainer. From the moment we saw Bernard on the verge of tears as his bride Jo Lin came down the spiral staircase of Hotel Maya, we knew it was going to be a very emotional affair.

We really wanted to put the wedding in perspective. That is why the vows meant everything to us. And to say our vows in front of our loved ones and close friends meant everything” – The groom

And indeed it was. Bernard and Jo Lin both wrote their own vows, each word true and from their hearts. With wedding vows like these, no one could deny the couple’s love for each other. Watch the video and you’ll know what we mean.

Tips: If you are thinking about writing your own vows, watch this video but don’t steal their lines. The point of customising your wedding vows is to write in your own words your promise to your spouse. Do prepare in advance and read it over and over again so that you’re familiar with it. On your wedding day, the piece of paper is only there to remind you, not for you to read from it. In fact, if you can, you should be looking into the eyes of your spouse!

Cyan, magenta, yellow… As graphic designers, we often work with the colour coding CMYK, but we’ve never thought of using it as a colour theme. One shouldn’t have to try too hard when it comes to wedding ideas, as often they come from objects we see in our everyday life.

Blessed indeed is this couple who had a group of good friends from church that made their DIY-wedding possible. Of course, we should also mention that Aaron is a graphic designer himself, while Chrystin is a multimedia executive. They handmade most of their stuff or added little details to things they’d bought for a personal touch.
