Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) is the centre of performing arts in Malaysia, a place where people can truly express themselves through theatre, music and dance. Cherrie, who works in a bank, and William, who is from the IT industry, chose to show their love for each other in the gardens of KLPac. Everything looks like such fun – a true reflection of this couple. We especially like the photobooth’s big heart-shaped backdrop.

Breakfast At The Park

The thing about weddings, as much as most people want to be different, they often find themselves falling into the trap of mediocrity. This site is not about imitation, or worse, intimidation and making you think there’s a benchmark for what your wedding should be like. Rather, it’s about inspiring you to be who you are and celebrating that, as well as reminding you of the things you love and that purity of love you had as a child.

Euodia and Nic are a couple that embodies that. According to Chinese tradition, it should have been a gatecrashing ceremony. We have nothing against that – it can be fun and has its significance – but we’re excited that they decided to have a great time at the park together instead.

One of the most important moments was the exchanging of marriage vows, knowing that I will be spending my entire life with the most amazing man.”

Euodia: “I’ve always dreamed of having an outdoor ceremony, but due to the weather here, we opted for a breakfast picnic to fulfil that dream. In retrospect, it was one of the wisest decisions we made.

“Our evening ceremony and reception leaned towards the elegant, classic and formal, so we wanted something fun, bright and colourful for the morning, with lots of patterns and textures. We loved this “out of the norm” way of celebrating our friendship before we walked down the aisle.

“I did the flowers and décor myself with the help of my bridesmaid Melissa Leong – even the boys’ bow ties were handmade – and one of my church members, Michelle Ng, put this beautiful breakfast table together.”

Bridal tips: “Always stay focused. Do your research but don’t be distracted by too many ideas, as all weddings are beautiful and unique in their own way. Always be sure of what you and your partner want, and stick to that. Grow on that. Lavish on that. Also do lots of sourcing to get the best bargains in town so you can pull off a beautiful wedding within your budget.”

The Unconventional

Thanks to their unique ROM celebration and creative chalkboard bridal portraits, we were so excited to see what Regine and Joey would do on their wedding day. Once again, we were blown away. Check out how the bride creatively reused items from her garden ceremony for her reception later in the evening.

Regine: “Being unconventional adults, we wanted a wedding that somewhat reflects us. But just like any other bride, I didn’t know where to begin. Excited as I was, I just had too many ideas and things I wanted to do for our wedding. That’s when I fell in love with Pinterest. I started pinning all sorts of interesting things that I wanted to do.

“We wanted something outdoors. But knowing our weather, Joey wasn’t so keen on having our wedding dinner outside. So we agreed on an outdoor ceremony followed by a dinner indoors. We ended up at Hotel Equatorial, Bangi. It has a beautiful garden, and also a big ballroom.

“My greatest concern was the décor. I wanted it to be light-hearted, uplifting, and most importantly, I wanted it to be US (whatever that meant)! Hubby came up with the colour scheme, and showed it to me. My immediate reaction was, ‘Perfect!’

“So that’s how it all started to fall into place, from the main backdrop streamers and aisle stands to the hand-fans that doubled up as lyrics for praise and worship during the ceremony. Then I added other details like the little hearts down the aisle, and the colourful paper roses that hung from above. It was all streamlined with the help of Pinterest – we picked out things that could be done within our theme.

“My favourite highlight from the garden ceremony was my bridesmaids’ ‘note boards’. I didn’t want my girls to just walk down the aisle holding a bouquet of flowers; I wanted them to be part of the ceremony. We had chalkboards and the girls each wrote their ‘note’ to the groom on them. It was like their final warning to him!

“A good friend, fashion designer Micky Tan, custom-made my three dresses. We conceptualised the dresses and even went shopping for the materials together. What a lovely job she did!

“For my ballroom decorations and photo-booth, I literally reused everything we had at the garden ceremony to save on my budget. Instead of a candy buffet, we had big bowls of childhood snacks as centerpieces on each table.

“It’s never just one item that makes a wedding memorable; I believe it’s all the elements combined. The venue, theme, design, decorations, videos, entertainment, and of course, our guests, and we are happy to say we had the entire package!

Tips from the bride: “DIY projects are more difficult to do when you start multiplying by the number of tables. Engage decorators so that you don’t have to worry about execution and setting up on the day. Attending to the guests as bride and groom is already extremely tiring and overwhelming enough.”

This is the garden where it all begins. May Ling and Jin kept everything simple and sweet, but within that simplicity lay the love they have for their nearest and dearest, because most of the items here were DIY. It’s a sign of their love for their guests, but also an expression of the effort they will put into their marriage together. Have you noticed that this photographer, Funky Dali, is often hired to conceptualise not just the photos, but the wedding as well?

Funky Dali: “During our first meeting, the couple told us, ‘We would like you guys to be the planners for our wedding in Penang!’ Brimming with excitement, we quickly set up a second meeting to brainstorm and get things started. Both of them being game designers in Singapore, a rustic/8-bit games-themed wedding was something relevant to them.

“Most of the décor was handmade, such as the ring pillow, thank-you gifts, signs, etc. Even the moustache on the bridal car was hand sewn! We were secretly hoping to keep the moustache but the bride’s mum loved it so much, she wanted to hang it in her home. The couple even flew in DJ Smiles from the famed TheFlashDance in the US to entertain their guests!”

This garden wedding ceremony held at the historical heritage mansion Carcosa Seri Negara was filled with tears and laughter. In the photographer, Zach’s, own words, “it’s definitely one of the most memorable weddings we’ve ever captured”.

We believe memories are made from the things that wedding couples put together. In this instance, the Yoon’s gorgeous dress was made by her friend Veralyne, who is a wedding gown designer.

Also, the garden décor and white helium balloons, as well as the bride’s vintage bags, were all collected during her many travels. The beauty of it all can only truly be seen when everything comes together.

Somebody Loved

Nadia and Sazman’s wedding celebration was cosy and warm, filled with photo frames, candles and flowers. Among the most memorable moments were the speeches, especially the one given by Nadia’s dad, and the groom’s sweet and hilarious closing poem, The Chronicles of Nadia.

The couple’s wedding song was central to everything. “Just like the song, I knew I wanted us to have a beautiful, romantic night that was full of heart,” said the bride. The lyrics of Somebody Loved by The Weepies were also printed on hand fans along with the table numbers.

To me, it’s just a fun event to honour your commitment to each other in front of loved ones. If you remember that, you won’t be so stressed when things don’t work out perfectly. After all, the marriage itself is what’s most important, so never lose sight of that.”
