Love Stories

Under The Golden Sunset

With an intention to keep things unusual, Julia and CJ approached this photographer to do their bridal portraits. They initially wanted a movie-themed photoshoot, complete with reenactments of both indie flicks and blockbuster hits. But they later changed their minds, knowing that their more senior wedding guests might not appreciate the radical idea. So Julia and CJ brought the photographer along with them as they travelled the least-explored states of Malaysia, in the hope that he might capture their charisma and the dynamic of their relationship. The essence of their bridal portraits is simply a couple embarking on a fun-filled journey and doing silly things to amuse each other.

An Intimate Affair

Many talk about having an intimate wedding, but few get to experience a celebration like Irina and Erzhan’s. The newlyweds, who are from Kazakhstan, had only both sets of parents there to witness their special day – which, ultimately, is truly what matters.

Photographer Anna-Rina remembers the moment she first received an email from Irina. “Is this some kind of joke?” she thought. It’s not every day that a Malaysian photographer based in Kuala Lumpur gets the opportunity to photograph a wedding celebration with just four guests. “I don’t understand Kazakh,” she said. “But I could feel the romance in the air. Seriously!”

A year before their big day, Erzhan had surprised Irina with a holiday to India where he proposed in front of the Taj Mahal – the majestic monument that was built as a sign of eternal love.

Surprise… We’re Married!

Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

“As I arrived for Amy and Mark’s wedding, I was like a little child who knew a secret but was sworn to secrecy – bursting with excitement. They were holding their long overdue engagement party in their parents’ backyard, but had revealed to me earlier that they were actually going to surprise everyone and get married,” photographer Jonathan Ong recalled.

The bride wore her mother’s 30-year-old wedding dress with a pink floral hairpiece from Alannah Hill. She, with the help of some very good vendors, had transformed the backyard into a “recycled” and rustic-looking venue, complete with wooden furniture, wine barrels and vintage crates.

Warm-toned spring flowers like gerberas, roses, strawberry fields, gloriosa, tulips, billy buttons, green tricks, sunflowers and dahlias “floated” everywhere in hanging glass bottles of different shapes and sizes. Guests were taken by surprise at the effort the couple had put in for a supposed “engagement party”.

When the party was in full swing, the groom took the microphone and shared the story of how he and Amy met. He then finished by saying that they will be making a commitment to each other in the presence of them all!

Said Amy of the collective gasp that ensued and everyone’s surprised and delighted faces,

I wish I could live in that moment forever!”

This couple from Australia, Maryam and Gerard, shot their bridal portraits in Putrajaya while they were on holiday in Kuala Lumpur. The Moroccan architecture was totally gorgeous!

Home Sweet Home

Yuen and Cheng went back to their hometown of Gopeng to shoot their bridal portraits, which totally made sense. Why would couples choose random locations for their photoshoots when they can go back to the place where their earliest memories and first promises were made?

Somebody Loved

Nadia and Sazman’s wedding celebration was cosy and warm, filled with photo frames, candles and flowers. Among the most memorable moments were the speeches, especially the one given by Nadia’s dad, and the groom’s sweet and hilarious closing poem, The Chronicles of Nadia.

The couple’s wedding song was central to everything. “Just like the song, I knew I wanted us to have a beautiful, romantic night that was full of heart,” said the bride. The lyrics of Somebody Loved by The Weepies were also printed on hand fans along with the table numbers.

To me, it’s just a fun event to honour your commitment to each other in front of loved ones. If you remember that, you won’t be so stressed when things don’t work out perfectly. After all, the marriage itself is what’s most important, so never lose sight of that.”

The Speed Of Love

Daren Chong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Many are the men who love fast cars and motor racing, but few (and lucky!) are those who find wives that share their passion. The fact that Claire was onboard to do a photoshoot like this with Paul makes this worth sharing.
