A Blue Rustic Wedding In Sekeping Victoria, Penang

Photo by Louis Loo Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Ranging from baby blue to cobalt, the many shades of blue were the perfect colour palette for this intimate rustic themed wedding. Touches of blue were found in the bride’s bouquet and baby’s breath decorations, which complemented the wooden decorative elements such as tree trunk wood carvings, long wooden dining tables and twine.

The bride looked absolutely resplendent in her gown, flanked by her bridesmaids all in light blue (but each in a dress matching their own style), while the groom was handsome in his deep navy suit and surrounded by his groomsmen all in their own dapper attire. Many thanks to Louis Loo Photography for capturing this sweet set of photographs and Moon Loh of Kakias Wedding Decoration for such a great setup!

A Nature-Inspired Intimate Garden Wedding At Amara Sanctuary Resort Sentosa

Bloc Memoire Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Every so often, there will come a bride and groom who were able to infuse unconventional elements into their wedding – sneakers for the bride and a geometric print shirt for the groom, anyone?

As it was a celebration of their two lives coming together, their theme was forest (林) and water (汪) – the meaning of their Chinese surnames. From the wildflowers and the bride’s beautiful blue floral bouquet to the wood and twine decorative elements, their décor was perfect against the venue’s expansive windows and ghost chairs for the solemnisation ceremony.

Many thanks to Bloc Memoire Photography for capturing this lovely and intimate set of wedding photographs.

An Earthy Bohemian Wedding

Opting for plants and leaves in lieu of flowers for décor made for a lush and down-to-Earth yet elegant wedding. We love it when a couple weaves their own style into their wedding. This one had different hues of green – from the bride’s beautiful lace cheongsam and her bridesmaids’ light sea green dresses to the overhanging leafy décor, mossy plants and tea lights, this wedding was truly resplendent. Many thanks to MunKeat Photography for the photos!

A DIY Outdoor Wedding In Shades of Red At Gita Bayu

Dennis Yap Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Simple yet elegant and surrounded by nature, this bride and groom tied the knot overlooking a lake at Gita Bayu. While she chose to keep things DIY, she had envisioned a colour scheme made up of varying shades of red, from pink to dark red, from the hanging paper cranes and décor to the bridal bouquet.

We love their ingenious guestbook idea – guests wrote their well wishes on a salvaged piece of wood that was later turned into a coffee table top for the couple. What a wonderful memento of their special day. Many thanks to Dennis Yap Photography* for the sweet set of photos!

A Blush Pink Floral Wedding At Hilton Kuala Lumpur

We love how this bride chose to keep her colour palette white and elegant, letting the bold colours of the flowers take centrestage with the décor. Complementing this were the blush pink bridesmaids’ dresses and the natural, lush greenery, which served as the perfect backdrop to the exchange of the wedding vows. Pops of fuchsia and deep red from the flowers and the gilded candlesticks added the right touch of elegance and glamour to the intimate soiree. Many thanks to ZA Gallery for capturing these amazing shots.

Tiffany: “I woke up on our wedding day feeling overwhelmed with happiness and excitement. It felt so surreal after months of planning and anticipation; our day was finally here. My heart was filled with nervousness and bliss as I was counting down to marrying the man of my life. We decided to write each other love letters to be recorded in our videos that night, so that we can watch this and laugh about it years later!

“The most memorable moment of our big day was walking down the aisle. I still remember the rush of happy emotions that took over, washing away any trace of worry when I saw Joseph. He, too, looked nervous and excited as he saw me walk towards him. We were worried about things beyond our control such as the forecasted rain, but we cannot thank God enough for the perfect weather on that day. I even forgot to put my veil on but it didn’t matter anymore. We’re just happy that all our family and friends were able to witness our very special occasion.

With those soft pastel colours and warm wood tones plus that framing backdrop of Mother Nature, we’d never have guessed that these newlyweds actually exchanged their vows in an intimate ceremony right in the heart of KL. The lush greenery and traditional white, accented with pops of pink, painted a beautiful picture of their union. Many thanks to MunKeat Photography for this lovely set of photos.

A Glitzy Gold Wedding At City Harvest Kuala Lumpur

High ceilings and exposed brick walls were the perfect contrasting background to the beautiful metal accents and glamorous glitter and gold. This wedding was the perfect combination of rustic and glamorous, with a long table setting replete with industrial cans of wildflowers and glass bottles. We especially loved the mismatched bridesmaids outfits, all of which were glittery and metallic but in a variety of dress lengths and colours. Many thanks to Bliss & Glitz and Catking Photography for capturing these details.

An Enchanting Rustic Wedding At The National Arts School, Sydney

Photo by Lara Hotz Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

It’s easy to get swept up in the hubbub of planning a wedding, so much so that most newlyweds forget it’s also a celebration of love and one giant party! Not many would’ve thought to get married at an arts school, but this bride and groom had the right idea – exchanging vows at the National Arts School in Sydney against a stunning colourful backdrop, followed by a dinner reception at an old gaol site. Graffiti walls, natural sunlight and aerial shots formed the perfect equation for their wedding photoshoot. Many thanks to Lara Hotz Photography for the gorgeous pictures.

Vanessa: “If there was an underlying theme to the wedding, it was to put on a good party, and a good party needs a centrally located venue, music, food and laughs. The Cell Block Theatre is an old gaol site with grand, high ceilings and sandstone walls so bright hanging festoon lights created the perfect ambience, while the length of the room meant long, shared tables, filled with big shared platters of food. It was all down to the food, the band and dancing: Adam and I met on the dance floor and our relationship blossomed over food, so these two elements were absolutely crucial to us.”

“As a fan of botanical prints, especially fruit and vegetable ones, we used a number of images of fruit and vegetables on our save the dates, invitations and menu/seat name cards. Quite a few people were confused as to why pumpkins or pineapples were used as a theme/motif. They were even more perplexed as to why we had mini toy animals placed at each person’s seat. But it was all for a bit of a giggle!”

Rustic Themed Wedding At Stones Of The Yarra Valley

Photo by Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Photo by Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Every time we look at photos from the Yarra Valley, our hearts skip a beat. The Stables at Stones look so amazing with its simple rustic setting. This couple didn’t have a bridal party, and honestly, no one says it’s a must. Why choose when you have a great bunch of close friends and they’re all among the selected few attending your wedding, right? Thanks, Jonathan Ong, for this stunning set of photos.

Hamish: “While our ‘first look’ was such a special and exciting moment for us both, there’s something about the chapel doors swinging open and the quartet beginning to play the bridal march that took my breath away. More than any other part of that day, that was the point at which all the preparation and planning felt complete, our nerves faded away, and we were able to embrace the moment. It was just perfect! Our talented friends gave hilarious and heartfelt speeches that brought the house down. I think the photos perfectly sum up how much fun and happiness there was.

“As we had many friends and family flying in from overseas, we structured our wedding around a long weekend of events, maximising the time we could spend with everyone. The Yarra Valley is one of our favourite destinations, and we knew from the moment we arrived that Stones was the perfect venue. We wanted the wedding itself to be relaxed and intimate, reflecting our love of our friends and family, food and wine, as well as each other.

“We held our reception in the Stables and kept our numbers fairly small as we wanted to give our guests an experience that rewarded the efforts they had gone to be there. And we never felt tied to tradition; we just structured the day as we wished: we shared a bed the night before, we had photos together before the ceremony, and we didn’t have a bridal party.”

A Whimsical Rustic Wedding

Photo by Marlon Capuyan Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

You can either complain about everything that went wrong at your wedding, or just enjoy it with your guests who are there to celebrate your love for each other. This bride chose the latter. Shena: “Looking back on our wedding day, the most memorable moments were actually the ‘small’ and ‘in between’ moments. It’s true when they say that your wedding day goes by really fast; it was only during those moments that we were able to slow down and appreciate it, those short yet sweet moments where the two of us could be alone to talk and catch up with one another.

“Other moments that were memorable were seeing each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle, saying our wedding vows, being in the bridal car together for the first time after the wedding ceremony, our first dance, and, at the end of the day, going back to our villa as husband and wife for the first time.

“We wanted to have a rustic and elegant country themed wedding with a soft, muted and ethereal colour palette, with lots of surprising and thoughtful DIY details with an understated whimsy. It was bohemian in the sense that it was based on our personalities and the choices we made were quite different from the norm. It was modest, lighthearted, fun, unpretentious and ‘us’ in every way.”
