What really stood out in this wedding were the subtle decorative elements that brought everything together – from the bride’s beautiful ruffles on her wedding dress to the gilded textures on the furniture and décor.

Keeping the colour palette clean with white, gold and blush, the bride let the breathtaking beach views and romantic sunset set the perfect backdrop to their nuptials. The hanging lights for their outdoor reception also added a touch of magic after dusk. Many thanks to DiktatPhotography for capturing this gorgeous set of photos!

Michelle: “We decided to write our own wedding vows to each other, so when my husband recited his vows to me, I could not stop crying! He kept his vows personal and close to the heart; I could not have felt more immeasurably loved and blessed to have found someone like him.”

Jong Sheng: “Watching Michelle walk out from the villa on her dad’s arm with the biggest smile I have ever seen and looking absolutely stunning was such a special moment. It was an amazing feeling seeing the woman of my dreams walk towards me, knowing that in about 15 minutes, we will be making our vows to grow old together.”

Michelle and Jong Sheng: “We’d always wanted a small, intimate destination wedding where our family and friends could have a great time and relax. Since quite a number of our guests are scattered around the world and Bali has always been our favourite vacation spot, it seemed like the perfect place.

“When it came to picking the venue for the wedding, it took us close to a month before we found the villa we were searching for. Not wanting to lose out on the venue, we placed our trust in our wedding planner, Alex from Bali Dream Day, and booked the villa without seeing it in person. We most definitely did not regret our decision when we flew to Bali a month later to view the venue – it was breathtaking! Overall, we wanted a simple yet memorable wedding our guests would enjoy. We picked blush, gold and white to create a romantic ambiance, and relied on lighting and the view to amplify the effect.”

Tips from the bride: “When it’s a destination wedding, hire a local wedding planner who is honest when it comes to costs and realistic when it comes to rolling out your ideas. Invest in a great photographer to capture your special moments, and be absolutely comfortable with his style. Take the time to do your own research, whether it is searching for vendors or decoration inspirations and wedding tips. Keep to a firm budget but allow some ‘emergency’ funds in the event there are any unexpected costs.

“On your wedding day, steal 10 minutes of alone time for the two of you to just soak in the moment. Be firm in your decisions but do not be afraid to change your vendors if it is just not working out for you. Make decisions and plans together with your fiancé, as it is not just your wedding alone. Respect your parents’ or in-laws’ input even though you may not agree with them. Last but not least, have fun with the wedding process and of course, during the wedding!”
