Not all ballet shoes are created equal. Repetto is a brand that has ruled the market and the hearts of ballerine lovers all over the world for more than 65 years. So imagine how significant this trip is to a ballerina when she gets to document her whole day literally dancing in the streets of Paris and in the boutique itself. Besides the fact that Acapella Photography did their usual magnificent job in Europe. As if there weren’t enough reasons to fall in love with Paris already, check out the second part of the shoot here.

A Replica Of The Pixar Motion Picture ‘UP’

UP inspired themed photoshoot. Photo by Daniel Lei Photography. Styling by Papers & Pastels by DLS. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Apart from what the couple is wearing, this is possibly the closest replica to ‘UP’, the Pixar motion picture, that we have ever seen. It even exudes the same feeling of warmth. All the props, from the Adventure Book right down to the picnic mat, were handmade in painstaking detail by Papers & Pastels by DLS. We are thrilled to see one of our favourite motion pictures come to life. Thanks, Daniel Lei, for sharing this set with us.

A Great Impromptu Wedding Video

We totally understand how a bride would have sleepless nights in the weeks prior to her wedding, as she thought about all the better ideas she could have implemented. We just never expected someone to actually be courageous enough to pursue the matter and actually make something happen.

This entire video, from the brainstorming process to production to final editing, was done in a week by Rekord Haus. It is seriously good, and we can’t help wondering what they could have come up with, given more time. We definitely love the storytelling and art direction, but more than that, we are moved by the couple’s thoughtfulness in including their parents. This video will charm both the older folk and the younger people, though in very different ways. It is a great way to bridge the generation gap, and give everyone a good story to take home.

Rekord Haus: “Yan Jing and Eddie wanted a nostalgic piece aimed at paying tribute and homage to their parents and the older generation. We met up to discuss the concept just one week before their wedding, shot the footage in the next few days, and finally completed the edit just one day beforehand. It was a mad rush but also the most satisfying shoot we have had to date.

“They both gave us a list of old places to revisit, as we went about different parts of Singapore to grab cutaway shots. Unfortunately, some of the places are no longer around anymore. Many of the scenes were also impromptu.

“The voiceovers were recorded as a last minute decision – they came up with the script on the spot, and we recorded everything in their car! We even had to seek translation help from my mum, as she is Hainanese. Throughout the process, we learnt many new things about Hainanese culture that we never knew.

“Huge thanks to Yan Jing and Eddie, who touched the hearts of not only their family and friends, but ours too.”

Another Way Of Storytelling

Our hearts leap with joy whenever we see a couple jump onto the bandwagon of imagination and creativity. Daren Chong’s latest set is quite unlike anything you have ever seen him do, and it is great to see photographers pushing their own boundaries.

Daren: “Photography is a fantastic storytelling medium, or at least, a way to unleash my imagination and creativity. Whether you’re telling a story with one image, a sequence, a series or an entire portfolio, the possibilities are endless. Just ask yourself what story you want to tell, and photography will get you there.

“I’ve always wanted to incorporate fun ideas into photography and make a story out of it. Thanks to Eugene and Pamela, who bought the idea, this is what we created for them.”

Extremely Colourful Photoshoot

Jason Tey Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

We’ve seen many photoshoots that used holi powder, but never one as intimate as this set done by Jason Tey Photography. We’re lusting after Alisa’s pretty little white dress, both before and after it was covered in colour. It’s very liberating to see this set of photos, and we love how the two of them, as individuals, are like blank canvases, but when they come together they add so much more colour to each other’s lives. It’s quite a masterpiece, really.

Hidden Gems

9Frames Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

There is much beauty in Chinatown and Little India. The rows of Peranakan shophouses, aplomb with colours and patterned tiles, were the perfect set. We also like the way 9Frames Photography played with the natural lighting so brilliantly.

The Umbrella Series

A lovely set of photos built around one of the most common things on Earth, the umbrella. Our imaginations went wild just thinking about how many more photos they could have gone on taking. Brilliant idea.

One Eye Click: “When we first sat down with Lynn and Chris to conceptualise the shoot, the first thing they wanted was a series of photos with umbrellas in it. To them, umbrellas have a deep meaning. Umbrellas bring people together no matter rain or shine. As we spoke further, we ended up with an entire album with the theme ‘Umbrellas’. And as Chris says, ‘The best is yet to be.’”

Creative Intro Video

Mr and Mrs Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Bored of seeing everything in 2D? What if you had the ability to transform whatever was on your computer screen into live action? If you are familiar with Adobe Illustrator, this will be a lot of fun for you. One of the things we enjoy the most about Mr & Mrs Photography’s work is the intro video they include with their bridal portraits, and this stop motion opening video is brilliant. We could totally imagine the wedding guests cheering with excitement as they watched it.

Chen of Mr & Mrs Photography: “Swee Mei and Gary are both art directors in an advertising agency. It took us quite a while to think of a theme for the photography, and then one day, eureka! Let’s turn this into an application! Instead of Illustrator, we now have iLOVEstrator. “Import” the couple, make them a new wardrobe with the “Pen” tool, experiment with colours using the “Color Bucket”, and “Rotate” as desired. Finally, apply a filter to show all the pictures.”

Taking The Plunge

When a group of people who won’t settle for the norm comes together, you know something great is going to happen. This couple went to Redd Bullets because of their shared outlook of wanting to do things differently. Eugene wanted to do an underwater shoot, and bounced the idea off Julian, the photographer, and Maurice, a friend. Both were more than supportive – they were excited! Maurice Noone had experience with underwater shoots and was there to lend a hand when it came to logistics and technicalities, while Julian actually did a Discovery Dive Course to learn the basics of breathing underwater. Talk about commitment.

Life Is A Journey, Not A Destination

It’s so important to understand this concept, a reminder for us to appreciate the moment rather than be so results-driven all the time. For this, Greentomato used a line to connect each frame to the next, creating a string of objects and stories that are all linked by one long, white thread. Viewed this way, you’ll realise that truly everything in life happens for a reason.

Reliving High School Days

Edwin Tan Photography, Armadale Weddings. www.theweddignnotebook.com

This couple wanted to have their bridal portraits taken back at their secondary school. It must have been hilarious to be back in their old classroom and recall all that familiar chaos. How we got away with some of the stuff we used to do still baffles me. It’s easy to feel nostalgic about school in hindsight, now that we no longer have homework, early rises and exams. But what Jacqueline and Chin Teik might not realise is how these photos with their bridal party have also created a new chapter of memories. Someday, they will look back at these wonderful shots by Edwin of Armadale Weddings and reminisce about the fun they had that day.
