Wedding At The Hangar

Peach Blossom Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Mike is a pilot and spends most of his free time at Dixie Wing working to help restore World War II aircrafts, so the couple thought it would be fun to get married at the hangar. We really love the old military vehicles and planes; it feels like a movie set. Also, the couple first formed their friendship based on a love of World War II history so it really was the perfect venue. It was a nice and simple wedding photographed by Peach Blossom Photography that captured the best of both their personalities.

Stephanie: “My wedding gown was by Badgley Mischka – ivory silk that faded to the lightest shade of blue at the bottom. I wore navy satin Gucci heels as my something blue.

“It was supposed to be small but it gradually grew bigger. I have a big family, enough said. We chose to get married on the grass beside the hangar. I hired a cellist to play the ceremony music. It was a very simple, traditional Christian ceremony. It was hot so we kept it short.

“My mother made all of the flowers, right down to the table arrangements. The men of the Dixie Wing set up all the tables and chairs in the hangar, and did a wonderful job of placing the airplanes on display for our guests.

“We had local Atlanta band MudCat play the event. They were awesome. They are a Northside Tavern legend, and Mike and I have gone on many a date to see them play. Also, the hangar was great about letting everyone explore the airplanes and drive around in the old military vehicles. It was a really great easy-going afternoon.”

Ha Long Bay, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been included among the new 7 Wonders of Nature. The limestone in this bay has been shaped through 500 million years under different conditions and environments. This is the kind of natural beauty we have in Asia that is often ignored.

This cheeky couple also made their way to the city of Hanoi. A red dress always has a way of making the bride stand out in the utterly busy streets. From the photos, we are sure the team had lots of laughs shooting this.

Not only was 21.12.12 not the end of the world, for Felicia and Steven, it marked the beginning of a new journey together.

If you remember, we previously featured their breathtaking bridal portraits, also by Kennfoo Weddings, that were taken in Italy, so it was no surprise that they chose another historical building, CHIJMES, which was previously a Catholic convent, in which to wed. One of Singapore’s most elaborate places of worship ever built, the CHIJMES hall has an arched ceiling and stained glass windows.

Kennfoo: “We met Felicia and Steven a year ago when they wanted to do their bridal portraits in Europe, a place filled with amazing architecture, which the couple loves very much. After much planning, we finally flew to Italy to get their pre-wedding session done. It was truly an unforgettable trip for us in our career as we got to know not just a great couple but also awesome friends!

“Both their solemnisation and dinner reception were held at the CHIJMES Hall in Singapore, which is one of the most beautiful halls we’d ever photographed to date. It was quite tiring for us as we had to fly back to Penang the night itself to work on another photo engagement the next day, but overall, we really enjoyed our time capturing Felicia and Steven’s moments, and it was an honour to be a part of their biggest celebration in life.”

Rustic Destination Wedding At Khayangan Estate Bali

Destination wedding in Bali. Photography by Terralogical. www.theweddingnotebook.com

There is almost no better place to hold a wedding in Bali than in the last retreat of an emperor, the Khayangan Estate. Personally, we love the bridesmaids in green dresses running the gatecrashing ceremony against that exotic backdrop, not to mention the tea ceremony. Totally photo-worthy.

This was indeed a celebration of love. The groom designed the wedding bands and had them custom-made in Singapore, while the bride made the DIY wedding invitations and tinned pastilles favours.

Jasmine: “It felt great seeing our family and friends who flew in from around the world to Bali. As well as the amazing view and intimate setting of having a dinner reception under a marquee in the garden with an eight-piece Cuban band.

“We wanted a theme that was fresh and vibrant with a rustic touch. The colours we used to style the wedding were quite eclectic but nature-inspired, such as grass green for the bridesmaids’ dresses and sky blue for the groomsmen’s shirts.

“I had the table centrepieces made with all local flowers, moss and pine cones. We used dried grape vines from the north of Bali for our wedding arch, with clusters of pale pink, green and beige flowers of different textures to blend everything together elegantly. We strung jasmine garlands from the trees around the estate, which looked charming and also made the whole estate wonderful.”

Tips from the bride: “Do as much research as you can for destination weddings. Be careful not to hire based on online portfolios only, as you must be sure that the service matches the quality of the product. Make sure the wedding planner you hire understands you, and can creatively turn your ideas into the real day within your budget! Be firm about your budget, and make decisions earlier rather than closer to the date. This will save you money, as you have the time to find more vendors and negotiate.

“If you’re unhappy at any stage during your wedding planning process, don’t be afraid to make the changes necessary to keep things running smoothly. We had to change our wedding planner three months before our wedding due to poor follow-up and nothing being done. It caused lots of stress, but as soon as we found another planner who was the right one, everything was brilliant and it became fun. Which is how it should be!”

Vintage Bridal Portraits

Photography by Jangguttouch. www.theweddingnotebook.com

The thing about outdoor photoshoots in Malaysia is you can hardly predict the weather. Cool weather, however, isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Oftentimes what is unplanned can seem all the more beautiful and unique. Of course a good photographer who knows how to adapt is important.

Jangguttouch: “The day was cloudy and hazy. The weather was obviously not on our side. We could not get proper light. However, at the click of the first shutter, we could feel that we would have breathtaking photos later. The haze and the branches of fallen trees helped us to create a temperate-climate setting. Everything made the day amazingly perfect!”

Music And Words

Arvinna Lee and Hayashida Ken were classmates in Temasek Polytechnic School of Design. They sat next to each other on the first day of school and have been best friends ever since. But nothing happened until about two years ago, when Ken asked her out and Arvinna began to see him in a new light.

Chris Ling International Photographers

Arvinna: “Our theme was very simple and minimalist. Small and cosy, so we could have more time with our friends. We didn’t even bother with the gatecrashing ceremony. The subtle theme behind it was ‘Music and Words’.

“Ken is a music person, being in a band, and he arranged for his singer to perform for me. Of course, he also coordinated the music for the entire night. While I was preparing the speech, I also included quotes from the authors and musicians that were featured in the card I designed. When the invitation cards were printed and we saw our names together, it really hit us that we were going to be wed. It was quite surreal for me.

“Ken wanted to buy the Cartier Trinity wedding band for me, but they didn’t have stock in my size in Singapore. At the time, our wedding was in two months, and Cartier Singapore needed about half a year to bring it in. Our friend was in Berlin at the time, and he went to Cartier Berlin to see if they had any stock. It so happened that they did, and he brought it back to Singapore for us. I remember thinking this little trinket travelled halfway around the world to help Ken seal the deal.”

In A Different Realm

Photography by MangoRed. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Garovs majored in Fashion Design & Merchandising in university, while Ryan in Multimedia Arts. The both of them own Everywhere We Shoot, whose work has been in most major magazines in the country and even abroad. Having seen their bridal portraits and infographics invitations, you must be wondering, how creative can they get in a traditional church wedding?

Well, how could it not be creative when some of Manila’s most talented creative people were involved? The thing we love most about this wedding isn’t that it’s so out of the norm, but that this couple knew who they were and kept to it.

If you strip everything away and look closely at the wedding highlights, you will see the way Ryan looked at his bride as she walked down the aisle, and realise this is no different from other weddings – they are a couple who love each other dearly and that is all that matters.

Garovs said, “The most joyful moment was walking down the aisle and seeing our family and friends crying, smiling, laughing!”

As for their wedding concept, she said, “We wanted our wedding styling to look like an altar of our life together, as if we’d died and were born again. With this in mind, we opted not to have flowers, but have our guests and entourage wear florals and graphics. Our church aisle was like a walk in the clouds, and our venue was styled as if you were going through a blur of memories, then later getting washed away into our all-white dinner area.

“We are thankful that our suppliers understood what we wanted and executed everything beautifully and seamlessly. Enjoy the planning, and leave the rest to the experts. On your wedding day all you will see are the faces of your friends and family!”

‘Everywhere We Wed: An Anti-Wedding Film’ is not for the faint of heart. As the film faded out, Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich played the first bars of Cure’s ‘Pictures of You’, and the guests welcomed the entrance of the newlyweds.

A Wedding With A Hint Of Scottish Influence

Imagine an all-white rustic country wedding with a hint of Scottish influence. Romantic and fun, this is what you get from a beautiful Italian-Scottish match. It’s great when couples include some of their customs in their weddings. Besides remembering their roots, it gives them a story to tell that others cannot imitate.

Deanna: “I love the details of the reception – the fairy lights that draped across the beams, the rustic candy table and the overall styling. It made my heart sing when I saw it. The Scottish dancing was a highlight! It got everyone up and all our Australian guests were having such a blast.

“I handmade quite a few things. I made a large photo board myself that had all the guests’ photos on it with their designated table number. Being a photographer myself, I wanted to do something that represented that bit of me. All the place name cards were made out of burlap and leftover paper from the DIY invitations.

“I also made the large sign that hung at the front of the venue with the directions on it. I stained three large pieces of wood, painted the letters and glued them together. It hung perfectly under the big old wine barrel.”

A tad whimsical and surreal, these are daring bridal portraits. This couple embraced all the concepts and ideas that were thrown at them, resulting in a very colourful and fun set of photos. We like the styling and mood of this set of photos. The location and checked tiles definitely play an important role in creating the right backdrop as well. Kres have recently expanded their services to include more than just makeup, and we thought this shoot was a good example of what they can deliver. They have also done quite a number of editorial photoshoots.

As lovers of art and beauty, it was not surprising at all that Analy and Jose chose to be wed at Antigua, Guatemala, a UNESCO world heritage site. The couple knew from the moment they got engaged that they wanted a small and intimate destination wedding.

Analy: “I fell in love with my shoes because they were simple and chic. I put on more traditional jewellery during the ceremony and kicked it up a notch with a bulkier and trendier necklace for the reception. My wonderful stylist braided my hair into a half up-do for the reception and added a gorgeous hairpiece that completely transformed my look and went amazingly well with my jewellery.”

“Jose and I chose to do a first look, and we saw each other before the wedding. Our chauffeur took us around the cobblestone streets of Antigua in a 1936 Chrysler convertible while playing Frank Sinatra. People on the street were applauding, taking pictures and congratulating us; complete strangers joined in our happiness and made that drive our fondest memory. It was just amazing.

“I’ve seen all kinds of themes and colour palettes in weddings but I wanted something stylish and timeless. Our main colour theme was black and ivory with hints of green that was brought in with the use of peacock feathers.

“My main focus was to highlight the beauty of our location, a museum and hotel that were once a monastery in the early 18th century. We used candles and simple flower arrangements to enhance the already gorgeous location.”

Tip from the bride: “I believe that trends pass and fashion always changes, but style remains forever.”
