We’re probably biased, but we take pride in our selected list of photographers, passionate people who take the time to know the couples they photograph, and conceptualise something personal for each of them.

We love these pieces because they look almost like art – quiet and still yet full of emotion, both from this couple’s movements and their gaze. We’ve been told diagonal lines add dynamic to photographs, which those pretty legs sure do.

The Whitewashed Towns Of Santorini

When it comes to photoshoots in Santorini, Greece, there is a pre-conception of how the photos will turn out – couples cuddling and looking sweet as they pose overlooking the Aegean Sea under the big blue sky.

Thankfully, this photographer wants more for each couple that comes his way. After looking at the attire they had in mind, he knew Ting and Hin were after a more stylish approach.

In the beginning, the couple had their doubts as to whether Greece was the right backdrop for what they wanted, but the photographer assured them it was, and they are more than pleased with the results.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”

These are the famous Bible verses the bride pondered upon as she walked down that aisle.

Sometimes it is easy to let everything else steal the limelight on your wedding day. But for Renny and Ben, thePhotograph captured their testament of love that took centre stage.

Renny: “It was very exciting when the day drew nearer, and we realised the day we had worked hard preparing for was coming. For various reasons, we changed several key vendors but everything turned out perfectly despite the many obstacles we faced. We’re glad as well that there were no disputes between our families and us.

“We managed to convince our parents to make our wedding day personal and warm, unlike the typical huge weddings in Indonesia. We went with bold and elegant warm tones and a touch of gold; pastel and sweet colours definitely don’t go with our personality.

“Elegant glamour filled the indoor section of the Hyatt OnFive rooftop, while the outdoor section was filled with dancing and singing. We prepared umbrellas as gifts for our guests because it was rainy season and we didn’t want to put up a tent. Our invitations were another unique part of our wedding – laser cut plywood, wrapped in gift-wrapping paper.”

Tips for brides: “Don’t take more than six months to plan the details; you’ll get bored and overwhelmed. Your tastes and preferences might change over time too. Also, pick your vendors carefully. Don’t go with someone you have doubts about. Follow your heart.”

Rock Stars

Rachel and Noel are college sweethearts. He is a hardcore guitarist while she loves to sing. The couple chose Route 196 because this is where Noel and his band perform regularly. The sign outside the bar showed their names and wedding date, which made a great save-the-date piece. The light painting is definitely one of our favourite features in this set; it made the photos look like a rock star’s concert.

Eugene Martinez Photography: “For one of the compositions, I played with the idea of Rachel’s shadow on the wall with Noel in the foreground to combine the two of them. I also added light painting to give a rock star feel. I asked them to stand facing each other for 30 seconds while I painted with lights and an alternative song played in the background.”

Small Town Fair

‘Perya’ is a Filipino term referring to the carnival fair that usually happens during town fiestas. It is derived from the Spanish word ‘feria’. There is something magical about shooting in a ‘perya’ with vintage dresses and balloons, something very colourful and romantic about it. Maybe it’s all the childhood romantic stories that we read.

These photos give us the impression that this couple has been there before, and that they are walking through the place with flashbacks of their previous visit playing in their heads.

Vatel Manila: “We didn’t think twice about suggesting to Bonnie and Neptune about a shoot at a local ‘perya’ – they were just the right couple for the concept! It was perfect, too, since their wedding theme was ‘Small Town Fair’!”

Vatel Manila: “We just love the idea of shooting at a local ‘perya’ so when Bonnie and Neptune asked for location ideas, we didn’t think twice about suggesting this – they were just the right couple for this concept!

“It was perfect as well, since their wedding theme was ‘Small Town Fair’! They really scoured the metro for a small traveling carnival and they found one right in the heart of Antipolo City. The couple didn’t bother to shoot at other locations, which goes to show that if you know what you want to shoot, you don’t really need an alternative.”

Making The World A Smaller Place

Stories by Integricity. www.theweddingnotebook.com

We really like this wedding because of the beautiful details. The bride took inspiration from her favourite Kate Spade bag, which is navy blue with little gold trimmings. And don’t get us started on how much we adore her ‘kebaya’ dress, the bridesmaids’ cheongsams, and how they incorporated the brocade lace pattern from the cheongsam into their wedding invitations and printed goods. We love how it all worked out. Thanks to Stories by Integricity for sharing this story.

Hui Yoong: “My attire for the church ceremony was an ivory white lace wedding kebaya with a soft gold songket skirt woven on a grey background. My bridesmaids had on navy blue Shanghainese-styled cheongsams with gold trimming and gold peep toe shoes. Each wore a gold Kate Spade bangle that was overlaid with a navy blue strip and ivory white polka dots, something I chanced upon overseas.

“I used the same fabric as my wedding ‘kebaya’ skirt for elements in everyone’s outfits, so they would all share a common bit: beaded, leaf-shaped gold fabric for the bridesmaids’ hair pieces, suit jacket handkerchiefs for the groom and his men, the waist sash sewn onto the flower girls’ dresses, and the ‘palu’ (scarf) that went with the page boys’ Indian ‘kurta’ outfits.

“All the lace and fabric for my wedding ‘kebaya’ and the girls’ cheongsams were purchased in Jakarta. The selection of materials there is amazing, and the workmanship for the sewing and beading of my dress was done spectacularly at a fraction of the cost I would have paid to have it done in KL.

“The cheongsams were made locally in KL by a 71-year-old lady in Razak Mansions, Sungei Besi. She made the mandarin buttons herself, and started out in her trade in Petaling Street when she was 17!

“The church was our choice, the dinner reception venue was really our only option given our capacity and dates – book as early as you can, is my advice! The cathedral was something special – it is a simple but beautiful structure that makes you stop and think for a while about its history, what it represents, and how you should conduct your life after you step out through the doors.

“The greatest thing about our wedding was having all our friends and family from all over the place in one room. Seeing them making friends with each other and keeping in touch even after the wedding, we love that all our worlds collide and are getting even smaller!”

One of the most meaningful pieces of advice from the bride: “Recognise that it is his wedding too, and to a certain extent, your parents’. Both Ash and I learnt a lot about each other, for example, he could not care less if there were no flowers at all at the wedding, whereas I could not care less whether or not there was a cool wedding car. You have to realise that everyone has different expectations and preferences, and you can’t please everyone, but you also need to decide which things are worth fighting for.

“People won’t remember the flowers and the décor years down the road, but they remember whether the food was bad, whether they had a good time, and how much they laughed. Try to understand why your parents request particular ceremonies and that certain guests be present – when we sat down and heard what they had to say and why, we realised that we actually agreed on the importance of certain cultural aspects, and it added to the significance of the day!

“Obviously there will be things everyone may not agree on as well – like me wanting black tablecloths which my Chinese mother had some reservations about – so there’s a lot of stakeholder management involved, and a lot of redirecting everyone’s focus on the more critical tasks, like getting the table arrangements sorted!”
