We never imagined there were goat farms in Singapore, let alone anyone actually having a wedding at one. But we’re so glad that Stephanie and KC did, because they’ve opened up so many possibilities for wedding venues. The setup looks amazing, and we wish we could have been there to witness this.

Terry from One Eye Click: “For a girl who has spent most of her life on a goat farm, rearing and milking them, it must have been a dream come true for her to get married on the goat farm she grew up in.

“We were very honoured to be able to capture the wedding of Stephanie and KC. The first one we’ve ever done that was held on a farm, and the only goat farm in Singapore at that.

“Stephanie is the only daughter of the owner of the Hay Dairies group, and has handled goats all her life! Many would think that the children of such an organisation wouldn’t be so hands-on, but we were impressed to find out that Stephanie has been doing this for as long as she can remember.

“We got a closer look at the farm while doing a casual shoot with the couple before the reception began –and it was so much fun. The goats are so adorable!

“The reception was held on the grounds of the farm. This was not the first time that Stephanie had planned a party on the farm, but this one was special. A large tent was set up on the premises and done up really nicely according to the theme – oriental. Guests came dressed like they were from Shanghai Tang. It was a beautiful evening.”

A Rocking Garden Wedding At Campus Lakeside

Faith and Max held their wedding at Taylor’s University Lakeside, and from the moment guests received their invitations, it was like they had just gotten passes to the most happening event of the year. We wish we were there because it looked like such an uber cool wedding.

Max: “The theme of our wedding was ‘We Love Because God First Loved Us’ (1 John 4:19). I believe our wedding theme and concept came from none other than God. [Faith and I] have so many differences, yet we are able to choose to love because we know God has planned this relationship for us since the beginning. Basically we realised that we can’t love if we never learn that love comes from God in the first place.

“As to why we chose this venue, this is where our hearts are. We love college students. There’s just so much energy in them as well as potential. We are thankful for the privilege of building a campus generation as well as our church ministry. It was at this very spot that I proposed a year before our wedding.

“It was unbelievable that the day had come – a day in which I saw how God had orchestrated such a beautiful wedding for us! Firstly, there was fine weather during the rainy season, and secondly, my bride sang her vows in a song – the sweetest one. On that day, we married the best that God has given us.”

Ultimately, we think weddings are only for a day, but marriage is for a lifetime, so build the latter. It doesn’t cost tons of money to have a good wedding; after all, it’s not so much a good wedding that we desire but a good marriage. The key is to have a meaningful wedding.”

“We both love creativity. We had a casual vintage theme. Pastel blue was the main colour, followed by pastel pink and yellow. With the limited budget we had, and leveraging on God’s given idea, we made use of designs and lots of recycled materials for our invitations and wedding décor.

“Bottles and cans were collected from different kopitiam and cafés, with the help of some friends. Faith’s cousin Alexandrea Yeo, who is a designer, designed and made her wedding gown, and Faith’s brother composed a song for us.

“Our wedding bands were carried by my first Valentine’s Day gift to her – a teddy bear. I must admit that Faith was the main creative person when it came to the entire theme, resources and planning. She would make a really good wedding planner!

“I personally loved the wedding invitations (I’m biased!). It served not just as a wedding card with concept and info, but also as a fridge magnet. We’ve seen them in many of our relatives and friends’ homes. If you look closely, you’ll see ‘12345’ – 2012, March 4 at 5pm.

Our tips for brides-to-be: “Start with a theme while planning. Try to DIY if you’re confident enough, otherwise find friends who are. Get a good wedding coordinator who will help relief you from stress so you can enjoy the moment. Finally, appreciate those involved in making your big day happen.”

This wedding made us fall in love with the colour peach all over again. Peach injects a kind of sweetness and happiness into the atmosphere. From the bride’s bouquet and VW van to the stationery, cake and big peach balloons, there is just so much to love about this wedding.

Sugarcoated Events beautifully crafted and put together the stationery. The wedding programme fans – complete with handpainted handles – menus, signs, meringue bar labels, right down to the cushions for the little ones at the end of the aisle. Detailed to the last dot, they also hand-dyed vintage napkins and aprons for the waiters to wear.

Hope you enjoy this visual feast as much as we did; I think I’m still in awe of it all. Special mention also goes to the type-your-own guest notes.”

Countryside Photoshoot

Gallerie CK: “The couple wished to have their portrait session done in the countryside, so we decided to do it in Sekinchan during the harvest season. We were so fortunate to find some hay rolls. The location was like a mini Tuscany. It was so beautiful it took our breath away.

“The second location we chose was a beautiful farm at UPM; it had beautiful morning sunlight. The harvest fields were filled with hay rolls and surrounded by trees, and there was the smell of fresh green grass. All this just reminded us of how these locations are truly a land of abundance.”

Destined To Be Wed

Photography by Jonathan Ong. www.theweddingnotebook.com

On their first date, Rob and Kim discovered something magical – they were both born on November 10th, exactly a decade apart.

This is an excerpt from their wedding ceremony introduction: “Before the entrée arrived, Kim had told Rob that she was going to marry him, and Rob had totally concurred, being quite clear that he loved her wholeheartedly and wanted to be with her and look after her for the rest of his life.

“So it was settled then. They meshed together like well-synchronised cogs. Relaxed about their decision, they set about enjoying the process of getting to know each other better, secure in the mutual agreement that they were destined to be wed.”

Simplicity and elegance meshed perfectly at this black, silver and white wedding. This couple has known each other since the age of 12. Isn’t that an incredible story already?

We love the great details on the bridal gown, which is by Tadashi Shoji. These are also by far some of the best bridesmaids’ dresses we have ever seen – varied designs with sparkle elements on all of them. We believe the all-white flower arrangement of calla lilies and hydrangeas by Wishing Tree were inspired by Jeff Leatham’s signature look.

Adeline: “The day unfolded in timely perfection, exactly how I had planned and dreamed for it to be. My walk down the aisle and us saying our vows was, for me, the heart of the wedding. It was a long day, but having our loved ones witness and celebrate this milestone with us was more than we could ask for. Best day of our lives yet!

“Being a jewellery designer, we decided to combine my creative streak with Adrian’s classic style, and picked a simple and elegant theme of black, white and grey with silver and crystal accents. As a couple, our style is very streamlined and minimalist, and we wanted to reflect this in the little details.

“I was a very hands-on bride and worked a lot of DIY details into our wedding as I wanted to personalise the whole experience for us and our guests. I worked very closely with Mint Events & Soirées on the event design and wedding planning to conceptualise our wedding theme, which really helped put things into perspective.

“I designed our wedding stationery, which featured a Chantilly lace-wrapped invitation card embellished with a satin ribbon and finished with a crystal diamante. We also requested that all our guests attend in black, white or grey only, which they did, and the monochromatic palette looked amazing in pictures.”

Tips for brides-to-be: “Go with wedding vendors whom you are comfortable with and whose work resonates most with your personal style. We had the most amazing vendors – talented and professional. They had this great synergy, which helped make our dream wedding a reality.

“A wedding planner and coordinator is a must. I didn’t want any friends or family working during the wedding, as I wanted everyone to have a good time minus the stress.”

The beauty of traditional design elements combined with a modern touch. In design school, we learned that beauty is meaningless without a concept or reason. Designs with meaning impart something to the people who encounter them. The great thing about Asia is our rich culture. We take it for granted sometimes, but Mary and Jeffrey have breathed new life into it for us.

Mary grew up in the Philippines, but did her law degree in the Netherlands. Jeffrey grew up in the US, and lived in France and Senegal while in the Peace Corp before making the move to Indonesia. We are privileged to get to see this lovely couple’s wedding ceremony at Villa Ambar of Semara Luxury Villa Resort, Uluwatu, through the camera lens of Vicki Grafton.

Mary: “For our wedding, we decided to bring our cultures together – Indonesian, Filipino, Swedish, English, Scottish, Irish and French – as well as our interest in the environment and nature. Besides the ring box with roots in it, the table numbers were made from logs and the guests’ place settings were little stones.

“’Wayang’ (shadow puppet), ‘Loro Blonyo’ dolls and batik represented Indonesian culture. ‘Wayang’ is most often associated with puppet theater performance. In every wayang performance, the ‘dalang’ (puppeteer) will tell stories about good and bad things, with a lot of philosophy that is highly influenced by epic Hindu stories.

“We chose the characters Krisna and Shinta, who are from a love story from Ramayana. You can see Krisna and Shinta ‘wayang’ in our decorations, and the symbol of Krisna and Shinta on our wedding invitations and save the dates.

“We also had a ‘Loro Blonyo’ (inseparable couple) cake topper and statues. ‘Loro Blonyo’ represents family life and the husband and wife as a beautiful relationship in harmony.

“Back in the day, ‘batik’ was the highest art, because it’s handmade – haute couture and a symbol of status. Nowadays, people in Indonesia wear ‘batik’ for any occasion. ‘Batik’ was seen in our chair ties and other aspects of our decorations.

“The ring bearers wore traditional Filipino shirts called ‘Barong’ – representing Filipino culture. I wore a white wedding dress that was designed by the American designer Sophia Tolli. Also, we tailored our wedding liturgy together with our celebrant, who is a Quaker priest.

“For our ceremony, we took readings from the Koran, the Bible as well as our favorite poets, Antoine de Saint Exupery (‘Little Prince’) and Kahlil Gilbran (‘The Prophet’). At the end of the ceremony, our celebrant gave ‘the Blessing of the Apaches’.”

The Water Palace In Bali

Bali wedding bridal portraits. Dennis Yap Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

To the southeast of Amiapura are the ruins of a vast royal pleasure garden. Much was destroyed during the volcanic eruption of 1963, but the Taman Ujung Water Palace, which is influenced by a combination of European and Balinese architecture, remains one of the nicer water palaces in Bali. Shiau Ferng’s classic long veil is also a perfect match for this location.

Vera: “Basically the theme was cosy and very indie-style. Everything was planned with budget restrictions – DIY décor done by family members and invitation cards designed by Sanjay, A4J’s vocalist. The best thing was we did not have to pay for the venue. It was supposed to be a garden wedding but due to bad weather, we decided to move it indoors.

“The most memorable moment was when Bryan picked up an instrument that he once loved playing but now hates very much, the violin. It took some practice before he could play me a simple song. Another was when the groom and all his groomsmen played those traditional Chinese games before entering the bride’s house. It was fun. Everyone was very cooperative and indeed a good sport.”

Tips from the bride: “Pinterest for overall wedding ideas followed by lots and lots of Google images. I followed a wedding website’s complete what-to-do guide from day 1 of preparations right up to the day we tied the knot.”

A Great Adventure In Cambodia

Destination bridal portraits at Siem Reap, Cambodia. Photography by Wainwright Weddings. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Julian, of Wainwright Weddings, met Annie and Jason in Siem Reap for their portrait session at the Angkor temple complex – one of the most stunning photography backdrops imaginable. We immediately fell in love with his work. His ability to capture life and people is remarkable; it almost feels like we took these photos from the pages of National Geographic or LIFE magazine. This brings bridal portraits to a whole new level.
