Wedding Reception At Sydney Opera House

Tealily Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

A reception facing the Sydney Opera House would be beautiful, but a reception in it, like this simple one with family and close friends, is amazing. We’re extremely in love with the black and white photos; Tealily Photography has once again delivered a set of heartwarming pictures.

Lena: “Half of our guests were from overseas so we wanted something that showcased Sydney – and what better place than Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour? There was no definite theme but both of us are food lovers so our focus was on the food. Also, we tried not to have too many formalities and make sure everyone enjoys the day. We chose blue, yellow, silver and white for the wedding. As for the favours, we had blue and yellow macarons that came in quirky flavours like macaroni and cheese and dark chocolate with sea salt.

“One of the most memorable moments would be when I saw Juin at the altar for the first time and the guitarist was playing our song. Having my parents walk me down the aisle was pretty emotional too.”

Juin: “One thing I cannot forget about that day was the time I first saw Lena in her wedding dress at the end of the aisle. She looked amazing.”

Tips from the bride: “Get yourself a wedding planner! My wedding planner did an amazing job allowing me to be that stress-free bride. Also, a good photographer is essential to make sure you get the best images out of your big day.”

Vintage Train Photoshoot

Photography by Jessica of All Season – Photo. www.theweddingnotebook.com

We are so in love with this vintage train photoshoot, the art direction and the styling. Jeska and Erwin came to Jessica of All Season with an open mind, and quickly accepted this idea without much hesitation. They look so natural we wouldn’t have guessed that Jeska was nervous. Erwin definitely had his way of lightening the mood with his jokes and making her feel at ease.

A DIY White and Green Outdoor Reception At Laguna

Erwin Leyros Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

St Gregory the Great Parish Majayjay is one of the oldest standing churches in the Philippines. The church and its surroundings are so beautiful that little needed to be done for the big day. For the reception, the couple filled the whole place with different white and green flowers.

We believe the key to managing your own DIY wedding is to keep the colour theme simple. White and green are two of our all time favourite outdoor wedding colours as they look effortlessly elegant. Honestly, we’re still in awe that the couple did all this on their own, including the favours for their guests. Thanks, Erwin Leyros Photography, for sharing this beautiful wedding with us.

Dhelcie: “We didn’t have a wedding planner; every detail of the wedding was our idea. We wanted it to be simple and personal. We were hands-on from the planning to the design of our invitations, and even the décor that we used. One of the most memorable moments for us was during the ceremony, when we exchanged vows with each other.”

In Your Embrace

Photo by Joshua K of Inlight Photos. www.theweddingnotebook.com

It is really nice how Joshua manages to capture emotions and warmth in his photos. It’s not easy, especially when couples are aware that they are being photographed. Of course it helps that May and Chee Fang are both pretty good-looking. That gold dress is an awesome surprise and goes unexpectedly well with the whole look.

A Date With Their Dogs At The Park

Marlon Capuyan Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Marlon Capuyan Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

You don’t really need to cross the ocean, climb the highest mountains or put on a few-thousand-dollar gown to do your bridal portraits. Sometimes the most beautiful moments are those we have every day and they are worth capturing too. Dianne and Maynard did just that – a walk in the park with their dogs. Lying down on the grass and just having that great time together. Because many years from now, you’ll want to remember how it all started, why you love this person so dearly, and everything you treasured. Sometimes age steals that away from us. The Huskies and Shih Tzu are so adorable, we could look at these photos all day. Thanks, Marlon Capuyan, for once again making ordinary things look so beautiful.

A Romantic Neutral Palette Wedding

The San Juan Nepomuceno Parish Church has those old gorgeous tiles, high ceilings, long aisles and pew chairs; the bride couldn’t have worn anything better than a lace dress and long cathedral veil. We love the use of neutral colours and how they go well with almost any theme. It’s so romantic and elegant without being overpowering.

This wedding definitely had a very big wedding party and lots of DIY, including the bridal accessories, candy buffet and wedding favours. The bride’s mum even handmade the bridal bouquet! Abby and Paolo have been together for nine years, and this wedding showed how dearly loved they are by their friends and family. We could go on and on about all the pretty things, but we’ll let Wedoitforlove’s photos do the rest of the talking.

Modern Chic Wedding

Taylor Lord Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Gorgeous is an understatement for this bold black and white wedding. The extra shades of purple and gold are just matches made in heaven. In case you have not heard, all these colours top the list of trends for 2014. We never thought combining them all would look so amazing. What we love about this wedding, besides all the glitter and shimmer, is the couple. Although they reside in Austin, Alisha and Taylor decided to get married in San Antonio, where they both grew up. We welled up with emotion just looking at these photos by Taylor Lord Photography, and we’re sure their guests did the same.

Alisha: “Our ceremony was incredible. We knew from the beginning that we wanted to write our own vows. While I was nervous about trying to fit 10 years of emotions and feelings into words, it turned out to be one of the best parts of our wedding. It was so intimate and perfectly summed up our love for each other. We wanted our wedding to be personal to represent us. Taylor’s sister read a poem that Taylor had shared with me one Valentine’s Day.

“Taylor has a studio art degree from the University of Texas and is beyond creative. He was with me every step of the planning process so our wedding turned out to be the perfect blend of our styles, feminine and traditional mixed with some modern and whimsical elements. We wanted to be very involved in the development of our dream wedding so we ended up doing several projects ourselves. We designed and printed most of the reception stationery, and the striped ribbon on the bouquets and reception tablecloths we found and had a family friend help sew for us. We spent a lot of time researching vendors, and the toughest was finding the right photographer. Taylor graduated with a specialty in photography, so this was one area he was very picky about! Taylor Lord was the first photographer we both agreed on, and not only are her photographs gorgeous, but she is the sweetest person and we had so much fun having her be a part of our day!

“The reception was where our personalities really came out! As guests arrived they had signature margaritas. The head table was covered in a striped fabric and had a purple ombre centerpiece that ran down the entire length of the table. We mixed long rectangular tables with round tables and kept the all-white centerpieces low and the lighting intimate with candles. We had a cake and macaron table that was covered with gold sequinned linen, a focal point in the room. For the father daughter dance my dad surprised me by playing a slideshow of me growing up that he and my mum created. Our wedding was perfect and we were so blessed to be surrounded by all those we love.”

Classic Elegance

We are always captivated by how majestic churches in the Philippines are. Walking through those grand entrances and down the aisles must be every little girl’s dream.

When it was her turn, Larae looked effortlessly elegant in her Monique Lhuillier long trail gown and cathedral veil. The couple chose a season-less neutral palette, and we love how thoughtful they were to personalise gifts for each member of their bridal party, right down to the little ones.

We can imagine how cool it must have been for each of the guests to get a flipbook from the photobooth, and how amazing the after party was, where the older guests danced to the music of the band and the younger ones danced the night away to the music of the groom, DJ Monds. Thanks to Metrophoto for sending us this set of photos, and Derek Yee‘s video for giving us a complete picture of this beautiful wedding.

Larae: “We wanted a wedding with a scenic view. Pavillion Tent of Sofitel was perfect because it faces the Manila Bay. This reminded us of our wedding proposal, which was done on a cruise. We also chose a tent as it can be dressed up according to our personal taste and style, unlike ballrooms where you are stuck with the same look and feel.”

Tips from the bride: “Start preparing as early as possible. Less cramming means less stress as you near your wedding day. If you have the time, opt for DIY so it will be more meaningful and personal as it reflects the couple’s personality more. Pamper yourself weeks before to relax both mind and body, and focus on the true meaning of marriage, which is a lifetime commitment, not just on the wedding day itself.”

Coffee-Themed Wedding At Janda Baik

About an hour away from bustling KL is Tanarimba, a lovely, lush resort nestled snugly amidst the fresh greenery and rustic pine trees of Janda Baik. Way before their relationship began, these two coffee lovers would occasionally bump into each other during their morning coffee rituals at the office. So it was no surprise for us to see coffee elements popping up in their wedding.

In fact, Kimberly and Kevin had a coffee-themed wedding, where even the tables were named after types of coffee, with a short description of each. They definitely couldn’t settle for instant coffee, so they got a barista who brought an espresso machine all the way there. Guests enjoyed free-flow coffee in takeaway coffee cups that were too adorable!

The couple also had a simple Chinese tea ceremony for family members that was held at the simple yet gorgeous veranda of Enderong House, which provided calming views of Mother Nature. Thanks, Iyao, for sending us this set of photos.

Autumn In London

Bridal portraits at Peggy Porschen Cakes. WeFreeze Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

There is something very beautiful about the colours of autumn. The sound of crunching leaves set the stage for romance as you walk through the park hand in hand. We love this photoshoot by WeFreeze Photography because the emotions don’t look like they were staged. It seems as if Yuh Jiun and Yow Shern were just having a lovely time together in London and the photographers captured it all without them even noticing. Though it was a pretty cold day, it warms our heart to see them stroll down the streets or spend a quiet moment together at the famous Peggy Porschen Cakes.

The Traditional Chinese Carriage

Photo by Dennis Yap Photography*. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Photo by Dennis Yap Photography*. www.theweddingnotebook.com

It is nice when couples these days want to incorporate some rituals and traditions into their wedding. Though the intention of most brides is to create a celebratory mood rather than adhere to superstitions, we believe it’s so much more enjoyable for friends, and it will also please the parents. Dennis Yap, once again, done a great job capturing the day in photos for us.

BabysBreath Décor Design: “Both Carmen and Jerry wanted something traditional with a fun and modern twist. Both the houses were decorated with lots of red lanterns on carved wooden stands and other decorations. Some Chinese offerings were placed on the bed in the newlyweds’ new home for good luck.

“Jerry and his entourage came carrying the Chinese bridal sedan chair and with a tray of good wishes for the couple’s happiness and prosperity all written in Chinese calligraphy. After the gate crashing ceremony, the bride was carried to the groom’s house in this traditional sedan chair. The groom then kicked the sedan chair to symbolise his having successfully wed his beautiful bride.

“This was followed by a tea ceremony, for which the bride changed into her Qun Kua. The newlyweds served Chinese tea with dates to older family members. The chairs used for the ceremony were in a gold colour as gold symbolises prosperity – in wealth and children. An intricate painting of peonies, bamboos and birds as the backdrop really set the right atmosphere and enhanced the ceremony.

“Chinese customs might sound complex but it is important to preserve these Chinese traditions for the generations to come. It also gives your parents the opportunity to be part of your wedding as they share with you the customs and traditions.”

Distance Makes The Heart Grow Fonder

Michelle Pineda Photography. Styling by Tipping Point Collective. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Long distance relationships suck, but when they end in marriage, they create some of the most beautiful love stories. Maan and Rafael were in a long distance relationship for almost six years. He was working as an architect in Abu Dhabi while she was finishing up her studies to become a medical doctor in the Philippines. Tipping Point Collective created a vintage look to add more character, along with love letters and a DIY tin can telephone to depict the long distance romance. Michelle Pineda’s photos brighten up our day!
