Enchanted Forest Wedding At Gita Bayu

This couple sealed their 10-year friendship with ‘I do’s, and everything about their wedding fell into place just the way she wanted it. We love how the bride worked creatively within her budget to come up with such a beautiful wedding. And of course, a good wedding photographer is a must.

Hui Wen: “The night before our wedding, the forecast was rain. As I was making my way to Gita Bayu, I felt sick to the stomach looking at the swirling dark clouds. I was mentally beating myself up for not opting for a clear tent as a Plan B. I was so nervous and worried the whole morning! Nonetheless, our first look was all it took to calm my nerves. Holding Andy’s hand while we walked around was definitely one of my favourite parts of the day.

“Another favourite moment was glancing around and feeling so humbled that all our loved ones had flown in from as far as Australia and New Zealand just to gather at one place, this moment, for us. Other favourite moments included getting ready with my bridesmaids, laughing as they would not allow me to devour carbs on the morning of my wedding; watching Rocky (our corgi) prancing around in his tuxedo; having my flowergirls and pageboy blowing bubbles, oblivious to everything around them; and having my girlfriends unintentionally turn up in mismatched floral prints, looking like a separate bridal party of mine!

“I have always wanted to get married under a canopy of trees and chandeliers – not an easy feat in KL, for sure! By chance, I stumbled upon a wedding in Gita Bayu shot by Mun Keat, and I realised that I had found the two most important keys to my wedding – the venue and photographer! It was getting to be quite a pain looking for my ideal photographer in Malaysia, as I wanted a photographer who had a very effortless and natural style with an attention to detail, and most importantly, who could deliver a certain emotion in his photos. I was beginning to think that such a person didn’t exist, and when I found Mun Keat, it was a no-brainer. He was the first vendor that I booked! As for Gita Bayu, I was ecstatic to find the forest setting that I had been dreaming about. We knew it was meant to be when we realised that it was also pet-friendly, which meant that we could have Rocky with us on our wedding day.

“Although I didn’t have a specific theme for our wedding, I envisioned an organic and effortless look to go with the forest backdrop. I chose a pastel palette of pale pink, baby blue, mint and lavender, a colour combo that came about as I tried my best to ensure that the décor wasn’t too girlie, as it was also Andy’s day as much as mine. However, I couldn’t resist sneaking in touches of fuchsia (my favorite colour) into wedding details that belonged to me! For example, my wedding bouquet, my manicure, and our bridal robes that I custom-made on Oh My Gorge.

“For flowers, I wanted them to resemble fresh-picked flowers from a walk in the woods. I asked for the same look for my wedding bouquet, but couldn’t resist adding in some peonies! We were very mindful of cost as we still needed to budget for our wedding reception next year. I tried my best to make things look beautiful without spending a lot of money, and as much as possible, I tried to DIY. We put together the wooden slab place cards, the ring box, handmade signs, Mr and Mrs signs, Rocky’s tuxedo, straw flags, and even collected close to 100 glass bottles, etc.

“A ‘Eureka!’ project was my flowergirl dresses. I wanted them to wear a fully tulle dress to look like little fairies in an enchanted forest. Alas, tulle dresses for kids were really expensive! I was struck by a moment of brilliance and altered tulle maxi skirts from my online fashion store, AZORIAS, into long tulle dresses for my flowergirls, and they looked adorable.

“Andy didn’t have much input in the wedding décor, but we had fun coming up with what to say on our signs! Considering we actually met in English class back in our freshman days, this was a great blast to the past. One of our favourites read: ‘Only the bride should be hot today. Please grab an umbrella or fan to cool down’. Other favourites included our wedding invitations featuring Rocky that were illustrated by a good friend; our ice-pops stand, which was a huge hit in the hot weather; our handpainted fans that made great favours; Rocky entertaining our guests by performing tricks; a donation photobooth corner for animal welfare featuring Rocky once again…”

Tips from the bride: “Don’t be afraid to think out of the box for your wedding, and have fun personalising your big day! Also, accept that things will go wrong on the day, but don’t let them get to you. Many things went wrong at our wedding. Our celebrant almost didn’t turn up, our florist forgot the flowers for our cake, someone broke the glass bell jars that I purposely bought from Thailand and Australia, and it was threatening to rain the whole morning. But in the end, none of that mattered because I got to marry my best friend! Do hire a coordinator, or get a reliable friend to coordinate and oversee things on the day itself. No bride should be worrying about seating arrangements or hanging decorations on the day of her wedding!”

Rustic DIY Outdoor Wedding In Queensland

Photo by Byron Loves Fawn. www.theweddingnotebook.com

The bride in these photos is the lady behind the Etsy shop One Lantern, which explains all the beautiful touches and gorgeous stationery. The long Hessian drapes made an awesome backdrop, and the bride, Tamara, made sure her florist included a good selection of Australian natives, such as spinning gum, tetragona nuts and king proteas, to her bridal bouquet. This is definitely a Pinterest-worthy post; we could swoon over this all day. Thanks, Byron Loves Fawn, for sending this over.

A Statement Bride

This was a story we couldn’t resist. Jess has immensely great style and we love how she wore the traditional ‘kebaya’ for her walk down the aisle instead of a regular, contemporary, white wedding gown. She kept the white gown for her reception, but she still made a statement with her bouquet choice. This wedding is so simple yet so gorgeous and memorable because the couple knew what would make all the difference. For capturing all the beautiful details, we surely have DiktatPhotography to thank.

A Rustic Travel Themed Reception At Janda Baik

This bride didn’t want fresh flowers at all because she wanted something special and long-lasting, so she DIY-ed her own bridal bouquet and the groom’s corsage. For the rest of the décor, Bliss & Glitz conceptualised a travel theme for the couple since they travel a lot together, combining it with the rustic feel that the bride wanted. Thanks, Memoir Click Studio, for sharing this awesome shoot with us.

Sharon: “The most memorable moment for me was when we exchanged our vows in front of all the guests. After 11 years together, through thick and thin, we have finally come to a new chapter of life. My emotions peaked and my tears flowed non-stop when he pledged his vows. His words truly touched the deepest parts of my heart.

“Before we really discussed and planned our wedding, I had imagined my perfect wedding – rustic, intimate and cosy, yet not too formal. During the venue search, our family and friends suggested a number of halls and hotels, but none of them came close to what I had always dreamt of, until I did my research online and found Tanarimba, Janda Baik. I fell in love with this place at first sight and immediately told Scott that this was the perfect venue.

Travel-Themed Outdoor Wedding In Bali

Rustic travel is possibly one of the most interesting wedding themes around this year. We see it over and over again yet it is never quite the same each time because different vintage props bring their own unique touch. It always puts a smile on our faces, especially this wedding with its very awesome bridal party and photographer, Axioo.

Fenny: “I loved every moment of our wedding day, but I would have to say my favourite was either the ceremony or our first dance. I will never forget that extraordinary feeling of reading our vows to each other.

“The concept was rustic with a travelling theme, and it was inspired by our long love journey. We decided on Bali so that all our family and friends, who are mostly from Indonesia and Australia, could have a great weekend gateway to relax and join us in an intimate celebration of our love. We basically went with the theme for everything in our wedding preparations.

“The venue was a tropical garden by the beach. Already beautiful as it was, I knew from the start that I wanted simple decorations that gave out an inviting and cosy feel. It was important for me that the wedding be a reflection of our style and taste.

“As I work in design, I knew I would have trouble choosing the colours, but pastel seemed to match the scenery and theme, so we chose mint, peach and white. Our DIY project was the favours: travel luggage tags. We wanted something that everyone could use right away. Another DIY project was our wedding invitations; designing my own invitation was harder than I thought.

Without a wedding planner and with only 60 days to prepare, Cheeky and Shea pulled off a pretty awesome peach and green rustic party. Her dress looked awesome with that gold sash, and that garden overlooking a beach was downright romantic and truly every girl’s dream. Thanks, Marlon Capuyan for sharing this lovely wedding with us.

Cheeky: “Everything was memorable that day, but the most memorable for me was exchanging vows of commitment with the man that God has so cleverly chosen for me, before Him, our family and very close friends. I had never been so happy in my entire life. I couldn’t stop smiling from ear to ear the entire time.”

Tips from the bride: “When preparing for the wedding, don’t forget to prepare for marriage. Better yet, focus more on the latter since it’s for a lifetime.”

Coffee-Themed Wedding At Janda Baik

About an hour away from bustling KL is Tanarimba, a lovely, lush resort nestled snugly amidst the fresh greenery and rustic pine trees of Janda Baik. Way before their relationship began, these two coffee lovers would occasionally bump into each other during their morning coffee rituals at the office. So it was no surprise for us to see coffee elements popping up in their wedding.

In fact, Kimberly and Kevin had a coffee-themed wedding, where even the tables were named after types of coffee, with a short description of each. They definitely couldn’t settle for instant coffee, so they got a barista who brought an espresso machine all the way there. Guests enjoyed free-flow coffee in takeaway coffee cups that were too adorable!

The couple also had a simple Chinese tea ceremony for family members that was held at the simple yet gorgeous veranda of Enderong House, which provided calming views of Mother Nature. Thanks, Iyao, for sending us this set of photos.

Sophie and James flew in from the UK for an Aussie Christmas and also to celebrate their wedding a few days later. Sophie and the girls prepped themselves in her beautiful childhood home. Hunter Valley was stunning and the perfect backdrop for the day, and it’s no wonder the couple flew all the way back to have their wedding there. Bistro Molines is located among the picturesque surroundings of Tallavera Grove Vineyard. We especially love how Cavanagh Photography captured the wedding party photos.

A Wedding With A Hint Of Scottish Influence

Imagine an all-white rustic country wedding with a hint of Scottish influence. Romantic and fun, this is what you get from a beautiful Italian-Scottish match. It’s great when couples include some of their customs in their weddings. Besides remembering their roots, it gives them a story to tell that others cannot imitate.

Deanna: “I love the details of the reception – the fairy lights that draped across the beams, the rustic candy table and the overall styling. It made my heart sing when I saw it. The Scottish dancing was a highlight! It got everyone up and all our Australian guests were having such a blast.

“I handmade quite a few things. I made a large photo board myself that had all the guests’ photos on it with their designated table number. Being a photographer myself, I wanted to do something that represented that bit of me. All the place name cards were made out of burlap and leftover paper from the DIY invitations.

“I also made the large sign that hung at the front of the venue with the directions on it. I stained three large pieces of wood, painted the letters and glued them together. It hung perfectly under the big old wine barrel.”

Eliska was a wedding coordinator in the Philippines before moving to Australia, so you know she won’t expect anything less than perfection for her own wedding day. She and Aaron wanted to get married in Sydney to mark the start of their new life there. Eliska: “I’ve always loved peach and vintage so we just played with both. We ended up with peach, blush and grey as our colours. And then it all became like, rustic chic, which was perfect for the outdoor ceremony. To match the theme, we had laser-cut invitations from Etsy. This wedding is filled with DIY items, like the felt escort tags, photo-booth and confetti bags.

The day was very memorable for me. But I guess my favourite moment would be when I walked down the aisle. I felt like, “This is it!” and I saw our loved ones all there to celebrate with us. That was the best gift for me.”

Rustic Minimalistic

Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

Sometimes we feel that there is more to simple weddings. This wedding held at Stones of the Yarra Valley, an hour from Melbourne, is a wonderful example of that.

Jessica went for a very simple natural look, and instead of a bouquet or veil, she wore an ethereal floral headpiece for a rustic look. It is just so refreshing to see brides wearing their hair down once in a while. For her wedding gown, she chose a crinkled creation made from spotted tulle that was designed by Gwendolynne Burkin.

The décor featured amber beer bottles that the bridal couple had collected over time, hanging from the oak tree under which they were married. The rest of the bottles and glass jars were used to decorate the dining area.

The couple wanted to keep the colour tones natural so the florist used flowers like David Austin and iceberg roses, lisianthus, hydrangeas, snowberries and field daisies with sprigs of rosemary. Somehow, the interior of this venue reminds us a little of Tanahrimba Janda Baik, Pahang.

Lets Grow Old Together

Jonathan Ong Photography. www.theweddingnotebook.com

We believe guests should always leave a wedding celebration knowing a little more about the couple and appreciating the love they have for each other. That’s why we were thrilled when we stumbled upon Sarah and Justin’s wedding. Everything they liked and loved were included in the celebrations, from their love of tea cups to their background in performing arts.

The wedding took place on a farm in Melbourne, with a mixed wedding theme of Enid Blyton’s children’s books meets “The Great Gatsby” meets the 1950s. The bride knew exactly the dress she wanted, a 2009 Giambattista Valli creation, but since it was no longer sold in stores she had to have one custom made.

The couple’s collection of vintage tea cups and plates of different designs, shapes, sizes and colours looked beautiful sitting on the tables for their 150 guests. The tea bags were also DIY, and carried the slogan “The Perfect Blend Since 2007”.
