Themed nuptials are best pulled off by couples who are completely dedicated to their theme, and this gamer-inspired wedding was no exception. From having the bridal march-in music to Final Fantasy’s main orchestral theme song to exchanging their vows under a banner that said “Achievement Unlocked”, this couple infused every little detail of their big day with gamer-inspired facets. Meanwhile, the natural midday sunlight and garden setting made for some beautiful photos from Andri Tei Photography.

Harold: “As proud gamers, a videogame-themed wedding was the only logical choice when it came to planning for our big day. We were looking for something casual and eventually settled on the Vineyard because we loved how fresh and perfect it would be for a garden wedding. When it came to décor, we made sure that our colours were kept light and pastel so that the colourful videogame decorations would really pop!”

“As part of the videogame theme, we had huge glass jars filled with tangy red Health Potions and nutty Mana Potions. Each table was graced with pink roses cheekily laced with the odd Piranha Plant or two from Super Mario. We even had cutouts of 8-bit food hiding amongst the buffet! Our favours were tiny swords, potions and shields handcrafted from Perler beads with help from our most excellent friends. Also included were photos from our pre-wedding shoot, which we photoshopped to make it look like a dragon was about to eat us. It was weird.”

“Perhaps most awesome, however, was the company. There we were, cosily flanked by only our closest, ‘gamer-est’ friends, as the speakers belted out our most favorite videogame tunes. We felt really geeky. Like, almost embarrassingly so. But we wanted to be ourselves, with the people we loved the most, and what better time to do that than on our wedding day?”

Tips from the bride: “Book a function room to act as a changing room and bridesmaids’ quarters, and keep your guest list as small and intimate as possible.”
