There’s something magical about the glamour of the 1920s Gatsby era, and we love how this bride took things into her own hands and DIY-ed her own wedding! With a sleek colour palette of white and gold, additional décor textures were added with dramatic white feathers, drop pearl props and wooden elements. What resulted was a stunning display of glitter and gold, matching the bright smiles of everyone in attendance and the sparkle of love in the newlyweds’ eyes. Many thanks to Bloc Memoire Photography for this stunning set of photographs!

Elle: “I was really glad to see all my family and friends on our big day. Some flew in especially to attend and it was such a joy to see them. I was glad that all the decorations, food and logistics were handled so well and turned out so beautifully. Most of all, I enjoyed the moments I shared with my best friend who became my husband that day – from exchanging our vows to the speeches, and his surprise song that he played and sang for me.

“The wedding followed a white, gold, feathers and pearls theme. I loved the combination of those four items, and it’s a mix of Victorian and Gatsby-inspired. We wanted a glamorous and vintage feel. After conceptualising this and doing my research, I started to DIY everything; it took about 10 months to prepare. I believe that every girl wants their dream wedding; so did I, but I wanted mine done with my own effort.

“I designed the invitations and monogram, which was stamped in gold on the invitations. Then, with the help of my mum and some friends, I collected wine crates, wine bottles, jars, and cans, and wood stained the crates and wood palette to get the different brown tones. I soaked off all the labels from the wine bottles and spray painted them gold, and bought feathers and pearls from wholesale markets. This was to create a photo display of our love story.

“My mum sewed wedding wands for me with tiny bells attached, and I made a money box (ang pao box) that resembled my wedding cake for the day. Children’s fun packs were prepared in little gold bags stuffed with all our favourite childhood goodies and games.

“As for our wedding entourage, they were all dressed in gold; with my bridesmaids’ dresses made to measure and the groomsmen in gold ties. The church aisle had beautiful white feathers and white Phalaenopsis orchids by Fleur D’sign. I had really awesome friends to help me with the set up on the actual day, and they did it so beautifully. It’s good to have awesome friends!”

Tips from the bride: “We all can have our dream wedding if we put effort into it. I used Pinterest a lot and I love doing craftwork. Of course it’s helpful if you can afford to engage a wedding planner, but I feel then the significance of it is lost. I enjoyed the personal touch to mine and enjoyed the crazy fun moments when I crafted with my husband for our wedding. We talked and laughed as we painted and glued; those were such precious moments.”
