It’s no secret that we love DIY weddings. Valerie is a very talented and beautiful bride, and with the help of her friends, she actually put together the reception décor, photobooth and even handmade the props! We know it’s hard to believe but she actually made the floral wreath and that beautiful piece she wore on her head. She’s so talented we can’t help but wonder if she’ll consider going into the wedding industry (hint, hint).

Valerie: “The theme for my wedding ceremony was rustic garden, vintage and shabby chic. One Rochester was the only place that we felt was suited to our wedding theme as it had both an indoor colonial house area and an outdoor garden area. The main colours chosen for the wedding were champagne, purple and ivory to give a vintage and classy atmosphere.

“The wedding favours were skeleton keys that came with a tag which said ‘Key To A Happy Marriage. A secret and special time we all share with family and friends. Love, Abery & Valerie’. I adore vintage keys and they fit so well into our wedding theme. Skeleton keys are commonly used as escort cards but instead we made them our wedding favours. They symbolise the key to love, peace and happiness.

“I wanted a personal touch to our wedding so I decided to DIY most of the décor, props and accessories. Hand-making things is one of my favourite hobbies. I made the photobooth backdrop, my headwear, my brooch bouquet and all the printed goods including my invitations.

“It was very meaningful exchanging our vows in front of family and friends, our unrehearsed and candid dance, and the crazy after-party that went on till 3am.”

Tips from the bride: “Enjoy the process of preparing for the wedding!”
