For once, it is not a case of Manchester United vs. Liverpool FC. As a sign of their union, Faith and Collin decided to support each other’s teams for one day. Believe us – to hardcore fans, that is a very big deal.

“About two to three months before our wedding, we decided that our honeymoon was important,” Faith told us.

“Europe is our dream honeymoon destination, and we wanted to end our trip in the United Kingdom, where we could watch our favourite Barclays Premier League teams play – Manchester United and Liverpool FC. Not against each other, though, in case we fight.

“So my hubby-to-be researched the dates that our teams were playing at home, and found a weekend with ‘big matches’ for both teams – Manchester United vs. Arsenal FC and Liverpool FC vs. Newcastle United, on a Saturday and Sunday respectively.

“We then tried to book a standard European tour package because this was our first time to Europe, and we didn’t want to burden ourselves with the planning.

“But all the packages that ended in the UK were very expensive, and the dates didn’t match the weekend that we wanted.

“Finally, a travel agent suggested that we pick a package that ends in Paris, and travel on our own to the UK by plane or Eurostar, and then head back to Paris to fly back to Singapore. This arrangement actually saved us more than SGD1,000 each!

“Once we’d booked our tour package, we went on to book our match tickets via Thomas Cook Sports, which is the official ticketing agent for the Barclays Premier League. The match day tickets were packaged with a night’s stay at the city of the stadium as well as a stadium tour, and cost approximately SGD500 per person per match.

“After that, all we needed to do was plan and book our travel arrangements to and from the UK. We opted for low-cost carriers, as they were the cheapest and fastest.

“This was our final itinerary: –

27 October to 2 November: Tour package (Milan-Switzerland-Germany-Netherlands-Belgium-France);

2 to 4 November: Fly from Paris to the UK to watch the Barclays Premier League matches and do the stadium tours;

4 to 8 November: Fly back to Paris for shopping, Disneyland Paris, Notre Dame, Louvre, etc.”
