With Asian weddings traditionally being big, grand affairs, we were amazed that this couple managed to keep it to just 25 people for their Bali nuptials. Vicente is from Kuching
and Elizabeth from Singapore, where they both currently reside. On a more personal note, we’re so glad to see that weddings are looking more and more enjoyable these days!

Vicente: “My heart was about to pound out of my chest when I finally got to push open the doors and see my beloved wife after the early morning gate-crashing session. In those first few seconds I thought, ‘Wow! This is my beautiful wife!’ She looked gorgeous with the morning sun shining on her the way it was. She looked like an angel!”

Elizabeth: “Ours was a destination wedding, so the number of friends and family members who were invited and able to join us for the celebration was fairly small. The scale of it may not have been ‘wedding-y’ to most, but its intimacy was perfect for us. Our wedding day was filled with big moments, and I have so many fond memories of the day – the first look, the first kiss, the vows, the first dance, and the hearty toasts and speeches from both our dads and our beloved bridal party!

“Our photographers, Bloc Memoire Photography, stole us away from the party to the beach for a night shot. We were to keep really still while hugging each other for the photo. In the perfect stillness of the night, under the starry moonlit sky, putting my head on Vicente’s shoulders, him holding me in his arms and squeezing me tight; I felt so overwhelmed with love, pride and gratitude for this man in my life. It felt so amazing to finally be husband and wife!

“Being rather unconventional with style and details, I have always dreamt of an intimate unconventional DIY wedding that’s uniquely mine, ours. We decided to hold our wedding celebration in Bali, a destination we both loved. Wedding planning started a year ago after he proposed.

“I am a free spirited person with an innate passion for free expression and personalisation. Ideas and things that I fancied were not readily available locally, but as sourcing from overseas could potentially blow up the wedding budget, I decided to DIY our wedding!

“From designing, printing and making by hand our wedding invitations and stationery to setting up our wedding website, from working with each of our vendors down to the logistics and arrangements for our guests, I got involved personally. The hands on experiences afforded me lots of great memories and also added valuable insight to my freelance career as a lifestyle/product photographer and event stylist/organiser.”

Tips from the bride: “Though a DIY wedding can get a little overwhelming at times, it’s totally worth it as you will have a wedding that’s different and uniquely, perfectly yours to remember in the years to come.”
