Thanks to their unique ROM celebration and creative chalkboard bridal portraits, we were so excited to see what Regine and Joey would do on their wedding day. Once again, we were blown away. Check out how the bride creatively reused items from her garden ceremony for her reception later in the evening.

Regine: “Being unconventional adults, we wanted a wedding that somewhat reflects us. But just like any other bride, I didn’t know where to begin. Excited as I was, I just had too many ideas and things I wanted to do for our wedding. That’s when I fell in love with Pinterest. I started pinning all sorts of interesting things that I wanted to do.

“We wanted something outdoors. But knowing our weather, Joey wasn’t so keen on having our wedding dinner outside. So we agreed on an outdoor ceremony followed by a dinner indoors. We ended up at Hotel Equatorial, Bangi. It has a beautiful garden, and also a big ballroom.

“My greatest concern was the décor. I wanted it to be light-hearted, uplifting, and most importantly, I wanted it to be US (whatever that meant)! Hubby came up with the colour scheme, and showed it to me. My immediate reaction was, ‘Perfect!’

“So that’s how it all started to fall into place, from the main backdrop streamers and aisle stands to the hand-fans that doubled up as lyrics for praise and worship during the ceremony. Then I added other details like the little hearts down the aisle, and the colourful paper roses that hung from above. It was all streamlined with the help of Pinterest – we picked out things that could be done within our theme.

“My favourite highlight from the garden ceremony was my bridesmaids’ ‘note boards’. I didn’t want my girls to just walk down the aisle holding a bouquet of flowers; I wanted them to be part of the ceremony. We had chalkboards and the girls each wrote their ‘note’ to the groom on them. It was like their final warning to him!

“A good friend, fashion designer Micky Tan, custom-made my three dresses. We conceptualised the dresses and even went shopping for the materials together. What a lovely job she did!

“For my ballroom decorations and photo-booth, I literally reused everything we had at the garden ceremony to save on my budget. Instead of a candy buffet, we had big bowls of childhood snacks as centerpieces on each table.

“It’s never just one item that makes a wedding memorable; I believe it’s all the elements combined. The venue, theme, design, decorations, videos, entertainment, and of course, our guests, and we are happy to say we had the entire package!

Tips from the bride: “DIY projects are more difficult to do when you start multiplying by the number of tables. Engage decorators so that you don’t have to worry about execution and setting up on the day. Attending to the guests as bride and groom is already extremely tiring and overwhelming enough.”
