It was a gorgeous autumn wedding with wonderful weather and a picturesque location to match. Looking at the groom’s mum in a sari and the bride’s mum in a ‘ao dai’, you know this isn’t just about the coming together of two people, but a marriage of two great families.
Victoria and Jithma were married in a beautiful church in Middle Park, before heading to Melbourne’s CBD (Central Business District) to take their photos. Making their day even more memorable was an unexpected appearance by a Star Wars character.
Their reception for family and friends also took place in the city, at a restaurant called Comme, where there were plenty of laughs during the speeches and lots of traffic on the dance floor.
Victoria: “One of the most memorable aspects from my big day was being able to spend it with our closest family and friends. We survived the entire night and had drinks with our guests until 4am.
“We chose to have our wedding reception at Comme – a modern Melbourne bar and restaurant. It’s very understated in its décor, and has retained some of its heritage features.
“Our colour scheme came about by coincidence. It started with the bridemaids’ dresses, the invitations, bouquets, table arrangements, groomsmen’s shirts and ties… We wanted the invitations to be easy to read, so we decided on a typographical theme.”
A tip for brides-to-be: “Don’t be shy about asking your friends and family members for references or contacts. Most of the companies we used were based on recommendations from friends. Do choose things that represent you and your partner. And don’t forget that it’s his party too!”
