What a dream to be able to get married in your own home! For this couple, the bride’s home was full of memories, love and cosy, intimate moments, so it made sense to have their solemnisation ceremony there, especially since they would be moving out soon. We love the pops of colour – the bright and joyful reds, oranges and yellows – and the Balinese inspiration that went so well with the lush tropical vibe. Everything came together with so much love. Eelaine: “We forgot the rings! Luckily, it was in my bedroom, which was right upstairs. Dennis ran up to look for them while I waited with the celebrant. It was the most embarrassing moment ever, but there was a lot of laughter. I think what I loved most about our wedding was that everyone was very involved and hands-on. There were no unnecessary frills and everything was very chilled and laidback.
“I’ve always dreamt of having an intimate garden wedding, and my home seemed like the perfect venue, as it holds a lot of memories for Dennis and me. The house I’ve been staying in is a rented black and white house. Most of the exterior was an addition designed by my dad, whose influence relied very heavily on the Balinese style, which my family and I love. Sadly, we’re moving out next year, so I figured we might as well grab the opportunity to do something nice and take some pictures!
“We decided to go with a Balinese theme: tropical flowers and the works to bring out the charm of the place. I got Larry from HellofromFlour to help with flowers and décor. I did a moodboard and sent him the colours and textures that I had in mind, and I let him work his magic. We are ex-colleagues, so we were very comfortable and casual when it came to sharing our ideas. I decided on pops of orange and yellow, as I wanted them to stand out against the garden backdrop.
“I really wanted to do something for the pool area that could be a nice backdrop for our friends and us to take pictures. I came across an image on Pinterest that made use of large balloons, and thought it would be really amazing to have that be the highlight of the venue. I’m an interior designer, so I actually did a plan and some 3D modelling of the pool to see what we would need. For almost all of the vendors involved, including the makeup artist, wedding singer, wedding favours and wedding cake, I engaged my friends! I thought it would be so much more meaningful to have my friends contribute, and I wanted to support their businesses. For wedding favours, I got homemade nougat, bought small glass containers from Daiso, and designed and printed the stickers myself.”
Tips from the bride: “Have a really strong concept and theme. Work around it from there so everything looks cohesive. For myself, I selected a few images and did a moodboard to ensure that everything I envisioned would tie in nicely together. Also, it helps if you have a colour theme in mind for your guests. I told my guests to wear either navy (our favourite colour) or monochromatic colours, and our photos turned out so well!
“I borrowed some of the decorations from a friend of a friend who had her wedding last year. I think it’s a great idea to reuse decorations, and I think she’s planning to continue loaning them out to bridal couples, which is so thoughtful. Also, no matter how small the wedding, I realised the importance of a walk-in rehearsal because I found that it was one of the very few things that felt a bit disorganised. Everyone was still standing around when I started walking in.”
