A Classic Contemporary Reception At The Clifford Pier, Singapore
Jin and Simon’s wedding celebration was a feast for the eyes indeed. The newlyweds are designers (architect and graphic designer respectively) and this was reflected not only in their choice of venues, but also in the theme of their wedding, from their wedding outfits right down to the stationery. Thanks, Bloc Memoire Photography, for capturing such a dreamy set of photos.
One of Jin’s favourite moments of the day was the time that she had with her parents as they veiled her before Simon arrived. That was when she realised that it was time for her to detach from them and start a new life with Simon. Simon also picked up Jin in the morning and drove her to the Christ Methodist Church himself, which gave them the opportunity to savour the moment, just the two of them, before the hustle and bustle of the day really began.
Jin: “Our wedding was a way for us to collaborate on a project we felt strongly about. Simon is an architect so choosing the venue was absolutely under his control. He favoured The Clifford Pier for the Art Deco structure and also the history behind it. Located in the heart of Marina Bay, Clifford Pier seems to be the link between the old and new of Singapore. It was also meaningful as we are all immigrants to Singapore and most of our family does not live here.
“As a graphic designer, creating an identity for an event is in my blood. Besides exploring contemporary graphic design, I also appreciate the classical side of it, be it serif fonts or Art Deco decorative elements. The design of our wedding invites was essentially an amalgamation of all these influences. For our colour scheme, I felt that blue translates both history and class, while the rose gold accents helped to add a modern touch.”
Tips for brides-to-be: “Spend some effort and time on picking a theme that you love, and then stay committed and true to it until the end. Consistency is the key.”
