This rooftop wedding perfectly represented the happy couple with fun colours, temporary tattoos and lots of laughter. Leona, who is a wedding planner herself, has taught us that ultimately, the best kind of wedding is one where the couple and their guests have a great time! Thanks, Munkeat Photography, for the amazing set of photos.

Leona: “The weather, sunny with a hint of breeze, was perfect. The atmosphere was fun and joyful, and everyone seemed to enjoy the fellowship, food and festivities of the day. It was lovely to have our church friends from different countries in Africa serenade us with a Zimbabwean love song. That was a surprise performance during our wedding ceremony. The speeches were heartfelt and sincere, and my dad made everyone sing ‘Rasa Sayang’ about 17 times (yes I’m exaggerating but just slightly). Everything about our big day was perfect and memorable.

“The theme was spring with colours like yellow, white and grey. We wanted a garden wedding but knew that we didn’t want our guests to ‘suffer’ in the Malaysian heat. T@ste6 at the Swiss Garden gave us the option of having an outdoor feel wedding venue with a roof to block out the sun, and the wooden planks and greenery also helped with our spring theme.

“We had a temporary tattoo bar from Habitatt Supply Co.. We wanted something fun that the guests could not only bring home with them but also enjoy ‘putting on’, and Habitatt did just that for us. The tattoo bar was a hit with both the young and old!

“Every décor piece was handmade by the bride, friends and family, including the groom’s tie and pocket square, backdrop and aisle, programme fans, pillowcases, corsages and flower bouquets. We wanted the wedding to be personal and did as many of the DIY items as possible. My friends and family worked alongside me to put together the décor and other floral arrangements, as well as the flower bouquet.”

Tips from the bride: “Get a wedding planner! If you are good at planning, then at least get a wedding coordinator for the big day. As much as I love wedding planning (being a wedding planner myself), I knew that I didn’t want to be stressed over the little things on the day itself. So I had a team of friends and family that helped with the coordination of the wedding. Most importantly, relax and enjoy the day. Absorb and pay attention to as many details as you can.”
