A Gilded Rustic DIY Wedding At Luther Centre Church, Petaling Jaya
The simple gold and white colour palette gave the bride and groom plenty of room to play with textures and other decorative elements. This included burlap, tassels, shiny satin and wooden accents, interspersed with baby’s breath and lush green florals – all together, it was a cosy, simple yet elegant affair.
The couple left no stone unturned when it came to keeping their guests entertained – a space to take beautiful photos, an ice cream cart (that proved to be a real hit!) and an ingenious guestbook alternative: writing their well wishes on wooden blocks! We especially love the subtle texture of the pearly lace on the bride’s gown, which perfectly complemented her bridesmaids’ asymmetrical white and gold satin dresses. Many thanks to Nick Lim Photography for capturing the sweet details and magical moments of this wedding!
Tsee Peng and Kevin: “We wanted our wedding to be a day to bring together families and reconnect friends. The wedding concept was a mix of rustic and glam with the colours white and gold. We played around with diamond confetti, burlap, gold flags and tassels, as well as garden florals and handmade stationery (i.e. signs, programme fans and the guest checklists).
“A lot of thought was put into the layout and set up of the church venue as we wanted to create a comfortable, fun and memorable experience for our guests. We had a ‘guest checklist’ for each guest that summarised the various activities and stations, such as: Block a Thought corner, K.E.E.P.S Backdrop, Gelato Cart, Find Your Seat, and Claim Your Treat. For wedding favours, we wanted something practical and sweet so we opted for honey!
“Speaking of sweet treats, we also had Jersey Jack’s artisan gelato, which comes in a vintage-looking bicycle cart. There were nine different flavours and we were thrilled to know both kids and adults loved this addition.
“We kept our decorations simple yet classy. All in all, we were overjoyed to know our guests thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we achieved what we wanted. Before we started on this journey, we were worried and questioned our ability to DIY our wedding.”
Tips from the bride and groom: “Allow ample time and plan ahead if possible. This gives time for research and/or trials and errors. Support and be patient with your partner. At the end of the day, your relationship with them is more important than the disagreement about a particular detail. Stick to a budget and plan according to your means. Don’t go into a marriage with debt and remember that a wedding is an occasion to celebrate your commitment to one another; it’s not to impress others. Everybody wants their wedding to be memorable and distinctive; find out what works for you and your partner and don’t be afraid to mix different themes to create a theme that is unique to you.”
