Making full use of the venue with its amazing views, this couple tied the knot surrounded by friends, family and Mother Nature. We love the cool steel exterior set amidst the warmth of its surroundings, the use of fairy lights, the pops of colour from the wedding bouquet, and the ingenious idea of using bricks as flower stands. Congrats on yet another interesting setup, ZáHuoHang, and many thanks to Zach Chin of MunKeat Studio for this beautiful set of photos!

Penny: “Our wedding was filled with memorable moments, but the one that we find ourselves constantly looking back at is when my dad walked me down the aisle. We both burst into tears seeing my future husband in front of me. It had rained nearly every day for the past month before our big day, but right after we exchanged our vows, the sun came out bright and beautiful. It was perfect.

“We didn’t really have a wedding theme in mind, but we knew from the start that we wanted to keep it simple, and most importantly, make as many sustainable choices as we could. We wanted to avoid food wastage from the dinner, which happens quite often with the usual banquet style dining, so we opted for a farm-to-table concept by Sempah T-Farm, which focuses on locally grown produce with a culinary twist. Our wedding menu was inspired by the tropical rainforest and the highlands.

“We tried not to get carried away with the decorations, as we didn’t want to create more wastage by simply disposing of things after a single use. The venue was already breathtaking so we decided to go with minimal floral arrangement. Joshua from ZáHuoHang did an amazing job. We’re both graphic designers so we instantly connected when we discussed the moodboard. My husband and I wanted the overall look to be effortless and minimal, and Joshua achieved just that.

“Apart from keeping it sustainable, we also wanted to support small and independent start-ups/entrepreneurs. The beautiful hand-embroidered bunting entrance piece was done by our close friend from Hong Kong who is building her own wedding décor business, Fer A Cheval. The singer for our ceremony march-in, Amy Boon, is a childhood friend and talented music artist based in Klang. Our humble wedding bundt cake was baked by my sister, who is starting her own brand, Chaju – a platform to connect people with tea and her home baking. We’re very grateful and lucky to be surrounded by a bunch of creative and talented people who unconditionally helped us to make our big day even more memorable and extraordinary. We wanted an intimate and small ceremony – almost like a staycation for our guests to enjoy the weekend in the highlands, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, so Eighty Seven was the perfect spot.”

Tips from the bride: “Setting a clear and realistic budget for items, e.g. wedding dress, shoes, etc., will help you find them more efficiently and reduce your options and stress. I know it can be quite difficult not to be overwhelmed by what we see on Pinterest or social media nowadays, but it’s always worthwhile to take a moment to remind yourself of what you want your big day to represent and what it means to you.”
