A union between two people brings together two hearts, two families and two sets of friends. For this bride and groom, it was also a combination of flavours! As co-owners of an ice cream business, they celebrated their wedding with an extended Christmas holiday for friends and family, complete with a “Marry Christmas” theme and wedding favours that were a mix of their favourite ice cream flavours! Special thanks to Munkeat Photography for sending us this gorgeous set of photos.

Shiew Li: “It was wonderfully heartwarming that we meant enough to all of our closest family and friends for them to witness our union on Christmas Eve. Many of them turned the trip into a mini holiday, bringing along their parents (to help take care of their kids!). And of course, the most memorable moment was marrying my husband and having him recite his vows to me.

“We chose to have our wedding in Penang although it’s not any of our hometowns, as we felt that everyone would be more relaxed (including us) if it were outside of KL. Ever since we started our ice cream shop, Inside Scoop, about half a year after we got engaged, we haven’t had much time to relax with our family and friends. We thought this would be a great opportunity to be on holiday with all of them.

“The theme was rustic elegance as I was looking for something elegant yet somewhat carefree. The arch was decorated with baby’s breath and draped with a sheer cloth. As it was Christmas Eve, the tables were decorated with shiny Christmas wreaths and candles. The cake topper read “Marry Christmas”. The bridesmaids wore rose gold sequin barebacked dresses while the groomsmen had blush bowties. For wedding favours, we created a special wedding ice cream flavour called ‘Nuts about Bananas’ – combining my love of banana ice cream and his love of peanut butter.”

Tips from the bride: “Pinterest, Instagram and wedding websites have excellent visuals that will help you decide the theme. Have fun and don’t sweat the small stuff. The marriage matters more than the wedding. If things don’t go exactly as planned, it doesn’t matter because no one is going to notice. Remember to enjoy yourself! I’d meant to take some photos of the two of us around the hotel after the solemnisation ceremony but it was only after the wedding that I realised I had totally forgotten to do it, because we were having so much fun just hanging out with our family and friends. We’ve been so busy with our business that we cherished the rare opportunity to enjoy the company of all our close family and friends. Last but not least, make sure the beer (and beer glasses) are extremely cold! This is obviously a tip from my husband who had no other requests except for this. Excellent tip, especially if your ceremony is outdoors.”
