We love the minimalist yet stylish approach this couple took for their wedding. They chose to have an outdoor poolside ceremony, with sweeping views of the city. Very minimal décor was needed for the ceremony space, and only some artificial flowers were incorporated for the dinner reception. Have a look at the photos and see if you can tell the difference! Thanks to Fabulous Moments for sending this to us.

Hoo Eng: “We planned to have our ROM session unsheltered by the pool but the weather didn’t seem cooperative at first. We were stuck in the dilemma of whether to take the risk and continue as planned or to move everything indoors. Toughest decision of the entire wedding planning process, I kid you not! We had the drama of making the team move all the chairs in and out of the hall twice! However, in the end we decided to take the risk with the weather and I’m so glad we did. We had a beautiful ceremony by the draped frangipani trees (my favourite!), where we exchanged our vows and officially signed on the dotted line to become husband and wife.

“We wanted a back-to-basics, classic wedding. I find that some weddings these days, in an effort to leave a lasting impression on their guests, go completely overboard with their entertainment, invitation cards, decorations, door gifts, etc. Most of these resources simply go to waste!

“We wanted to minimise that as much as we could and so we prepared no door gifts, used mostly artificial flowers (even if the hall might not look as pretty), had no wishing tree, guestbook signing or printed pre-wedding photo book, no photo booth or instant photography, no dessert booth (as I don’t like too many sweets), and no coordinated bridesmaids’ dresses that would be worn only once. We had very simple invitation cards and a string quartet that only played background music so that guests could mingle freely. Our aim was simply to have fun and be merry with our guests, with good food, great wine and much laughter!”

Tips for brides to be: “Many things can go wrong on your wedding day, but just breathe and embrace it. It’s only a wedding! The marriage is more important. Don’t try to hold a wedding competition and outshine your friend’s wedding. Instead, have a wedding that speaks of your style and personality. Defy tradition if need be. If there will be many kids attending, a kids’ play corner will be so much help for your guests who are parents. Ours was highly praised!”
