In a city like Rome, with a backdrop that’s so rich in art and history, a classic and romantic wedding is perhaps the only way to go. Here, the opulent interior of the Basilica Santa Maria in Ara Coeli was complemented by the bride and groom’s traditional style, with pastel pink hues balancing out the majestic gold. Many thanks to Axioo for capturing these utterly breathtaking shots of the newlyweds in Rome with all its grandeur.

Rae: “Located on the summit of the Campidoglio (Capitoline Hill in English), the Basilica Santa Maria in Ara Coeli was where I chose to have our ceremony. I didn’t get a chance to look at the venue beforehand, but it turned out that I got one of the most picturesque interiors a church could have. The chandeliers were love at first sight, and the ceiling and altar looked amazing too.

“I chose the colour combination of white, pastel pink and gold. I’ve always loved the combination of these colours, as they’re both romantic and classic at the same time. Adding to the overall concept, we chose to have rustic wedding invitations with calligraphy. I think calligraphy is romantic, classic and never goes out of style.”

Tips from the bride: “First and foremost, sit down with your fiancé and work out your budget before you book anything – use that as a reference point and try not to go over your limit too much. Destination weddings can be stressful, but as you try to enjoy the journey to its beautiful end, it can also be fun. Pinterest was a helpful source of inspiration and I also liked wedding blogs. While looking for inspiration, make sure you also don’t overwhelm yourself with ideas. Flooding your mind with ideas will bring more stress, especially if not all of them can be done.”
