Not your usual oriental wedding, this is elegant and modern at the same time. The blue porcelain theme is stunning and gorgeous. Thanks, Adam Ong Photography, for sending over this gorgeous set.

Jean: “Some of the most memorable moments were the walk down the aisle during the garden wedding ceremony, the moment my dad gave my hand over to Ken, that father and daughter hug (that was probably our first in 10-15 years!), and the feeling that all your loved ones are there to witness these moments.”

Ken: “I won’t forget the look on her dad’s face when he gave her hand over to me, as well as that sudden rush of emotions during the speech whilst I was expressing my thanks to my parents for all that they’ve done for me.

Jean: “E&O Hotel was chosen as it has a garden and is by the sea (kind of), which quite fit the relaxed, laidback feel that we wanted for our intimate ceremony.

“I handmade a few things, including the Lego boutonnieres for Ken and his entourage for the gate-crashing. Since Ken has a thing for Lego, I thought it would be nice to add a bit of ‘him’ to our wedding, though I was definitely the one having fun experimenting and making it.

“I handmade the Ang Pows for the bridal entourage – besides the fact that they look pretty in pictures, the idea of adding a personalised touch got me working on it. Some DIY went into the bridesmaids’ gifts as well, which were handpicked vintage necklaces paired with customised poems for each of them in simple packaging. Nothing too fancy or costly, but it’s the thought that counts!”

Tips from the bride: “Enjoy the planning process! It’s not something you’ll do again so it’s important that you enjoy it. There are just so many ideas that you can get nowadays from the web so the research is going to be endless. Knowing when to stop exploring and staying focused on what matters to you both is important. The last thing you want is to be overwhelmed by it all and start stressing too much about not meeting deadlines, expectations, or worse, exceeding your budget.

“Pinterest is definitely a good place to start; it just has so, so many décor and theme ideas, as well as DIY inspiration. I also regularly visited The Wedding Notebook for real life wedding stories and to look up vendors and reviews.

“Be mentally prepared that nothing will be perfect when the day comes. There will be hiccups along the way, and sometimes, it’s the hiccups that make it even more memorable and, I guess in some ways, ‘personalised’ and special!”
