“Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass; it’s about learning to dance in the rain” – this quote perfectly sums up this couple’s bridal portraits as it rained during the last part of their photoshoot, just as they were getting ready to toss clouds of colourful Holi Powder into the air. Instead, what they got was even better – colourful paint and so much laughter! Thanks to Studiokel Photography by Kelly Fan for capturing this couple’s free-spirited nature. Truly they are a pair of explorers, dreamers of a romantic railway getaway who are not afraid to let their hair down.

Kelly of Studiokel Photography: “It was an intense morning but heaps of fun working with such an enthusiastic couple. We managed to get the photoshoot done over a few locations in just half a day.

“As a tribute to their youthful spirit and to letting their hair down, I suggested they go crazy with the visually enticing, colourful Holi Powder. Just as the couple changed into their casual wear, the weather took a sudden turn for the worse and dark clouds rolled in with heavy drops of rain. Within seconds of opening the packets of Holi Powder, it was pouring!

“I kept on shooting what had turned into a crazy mess, and was delighted that, instead of running for shelter, Jia Lin and Shian Wen continued tossing powder at each other, embracing the drippy colours that the rain had brought on. The rain dampened any possibility of creating clouds of colourful powder in the air, but instead I witnessed a couple throw caution to the wind as they danced and played in the pouring rain. If all couples were as free-spirited as Jia Lin and Shian Wen, I wouldn’t mind it raining at shoots!

“We settled for a rustic morning in the Wessex area, exploring the nooks and crannies of the road less travelled. Jia Lin wanted to look for the famous swing that was supposed to be there, but it had been taken down for safety reasons. To put a smile on his fiancée’s face, Shian Wen was determined to find the perfect tree so his best man could construct a simple DIY swing! Mosquitoes aside, it was sturdy enough for Jia Lin to have more than a few good swings!

“For the romantic railway getaway, I brought the couple to the Bukit Timah railway tracks, which are well-preserved and easily accessible to the public. There, we recreated what their parents might have felt as they travelled by rail in the past.”
