A DIY Classic Chic Wedding at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur
In these modern times, distance is no longer a barrier in a happily ever after story. And for these newlyweds – he from Perth and she from Kuala Lumpur – their one and a half year long-distance relationship finally ended in a forever romance as they tied the knot in Kuala Lumpur. Complete with heartfelt speeches from family and loved ones, the couple’s DIY travel-themed wedding, set against a classic colour palette of blue, blush pink and gold, was just the right amount of simple yet elegant. These shots were perfectly captured by Andrew Yep Photographie.
Rachel: “Our theme was based on our long distance relationship and travelling, given we spent most of our time apart. The wedding invitations were boarding passes, the wedding favours were aeroplane-themed bottle openers (with the message: “Our adventure begins!”) and the signboards and seating chart were travel themed. We even had short stories written for each location, which was placed on each table.
“We had family and friends who travelled in from Perth, Singapore, Johor Bahru, Canberra and Tanzania to celebrate our special day. By Malaysian standards, we probably had a lot of speeches – by the groom’s father and bride’s brother, best man, maid of honour, bridesmaids, groomsmen and us. The speeches were entertaining and memorable – it was also the first time our complete immediate families got to meet!”
Tips from the bride: “Set your budget and stick to it, and you will still exceed it by at least 10%. On your wedding day, try to go with the flow. No matter how prepared and well planned the day is, there may still be hiccups. Just embrace these and don’t let them ruin your day! Above all, be each other’s best friend. Put each other first and don’t forget the little things. The most consistent advice Glen received on the wedding day was, ‘Happy wife, happy life’.”
