While most people wouldn’t think to have their destination wedding at Cameron Highlands, most of us agree that having an outdoor garden wedding in KL could potentially be quite uncomfortable for everyone!
Combining Mother Nature with the talent and artistry of their friends, this couple DIY-ed a beautiful, intimate and cosy space in which to say “I do”. Thanks to Peter Herman Photography for capturing these special moments.
Abby: “We were worried about the weather. To plan an outdoor wedding and hope for it to not rain is honestly a gamble. Every day prior, the forecast predicted rain on our big day. We prayed every day and did everything and anything that would help to chase the rain away. We were so blessed that it didn’t rain even though gloomy clouds gathered – and eventually left.
“To have a garden wedding in Malaysia that won’t leave you sweaty is to have very limited venue choices, and we decided on Cameron Highlands. Even then, looking for the right space was a challenge, as Cameron Highlands is not known for hosting garden weddings. After a long search, the Jim Thompson Cottage seemed to be the right fit. It might not have been a luxury location but the garden and views were perfect.
“After securing the venue, the next big thing was the F&B. It was definitely cooler up at the Jim Thompson Cottage and we wanted to serve food that would keep people warm. What better than steamboat? We started searching for the right caterer who could help us to accomplish this crazy idea. Luckily we met Marcus, Jet and Boon from Hometown Steamboat Restaurant; they too had been waiting for a couple who would be interested in having a steamboat dinner at their wedding.
“The theme of our wedding was “ABTL In Pursuit of Wanderlust”. We’re so grateful to have talented and artistic friends, and we made this wedding as DIY as possible. Everything was sourced, designed and homemade by us. Our great “ABTL Crew” was in charge of sorting out the details for our big day. Everything turned out perfect and was beyond well done. It’s not just about our journey in life together, but also about the people who will be with us in this journey. There really are some things that money cannot buy, and for us, it’s our beloved friends and family, as well as their efforts in making this day happen.”
Tips for brides: “Plan, plan, plan! Then, after all the preparations, let go and don’t sweat the small stuff. Enjoy your big day and focus on your friends and guests who are there to experience your special day with you.”
