Choosing to DIY your own wedding can be overwhelming, but this bride and groom each picked out a colour and ran with their ideas. She chose gold while he chose Tiffany blue – two colours that look amazing together, much like the couple themselves. With joyful yellow balloons decorating the wedding aisle, the bridesmaids (each in mismatched bridesmaid outfits) walked down the aisle with parasols in lieu of floral bouquets. For the reception, the vintage decorative elements, such as the gold painted wine bottles, perfectly contrasted against the modern chandeliers of the venue. Thanks to Anna-Rina Photography for this beautiful set of photos that capture the unbridled joy and happy smiles of the couple and their friends and family.

Sean: “The most memorable moment was when Joy and I were exchanging our vows. The flashbacks to how we started dating and how we’ve progressed towards an entity in marriage; it never fails to bring a smile to our faces, or in the case of Joy, tears of joy. No pun intended!”

Joy: “It was such an overwhelming feeling when the pastor united us as a married couple in front of our closest friends and family. What surprised me most was when my dad couldn’t stop sobbing as we had our father-daughter dance. The only time I saw him cry was when he was watching The Lion King!

“We both instantly agreed to have an intimate wedding with DIY elements to show our creativity. We wanted our guests to enjoy the warmth of the whole celebration, deciding on a Modern Vintage theme where my colour of choice was gold and Sean’s was Tiffany blue. We tried to do as many DIY projects as possible, and the best part was spray-painting 40 wine bottles gold for the table centrepieces. As for the favours, we went for something quirky like a custom designed bookmark from Photobooth (inspired by Instagram).”

Tips from the bride: “For brides choosing to jump onto the DIY bandwagon, remember to delegate, delegate, delegate! Don’t feel guilty about delegating tasks to friends and family who are willing to help. Pinterest is your best friend but remember to always stay focused on your initial plan, as the overflow of ideas can be overwhelming. Make sure you have ample time to plan your wedding and have a wedding planner book in hand to organise vendors, budget, guest list, etc. Learn to discern when to DIY and when to leave it to the pros. If it has more than 15 steps, then ditch it. I did my own makeup on my wedding day, and if you do decide to go down that route, be sure to practice as many times as you can. Don’t try new skincare/make up products close to your wedding day as you won’t know how your skin will react to it.”
