Sometimes there’s really nothing more that needs to be done if you’ve chosen the perfect venue for your wedding. For these newlyweds, it was the Haiku Mill – a once abandoned sugar mill that gently fell into ruin, resulting in the most beautiful décor only Mother Nature and Father Time can produce.

Lush vegetation and long vines covered the thick stonewalls, bringing a touch of old world romance to the entire wedding. Surrounded by the gilded vessels, soft natural colours and glamorous chandeliers, this couple and their loved ones certainly made it a wonderful night to remember. Many thanks to Enmuse Photography for this breathtaking set of photos!

Danica: “I drew inspiration from the venue itself. Haiku Mill is so beautiful on its own that I really didn’t have to do much. With its unmatched beauty and elegance, unique past, and lush, tropical location, Haiku Mill is unlike anything you’ve ever seen or experienced before. Located on Maui’s North Shore, off the famous Road to Hana, it is a blend of European old world elegance and the stunning natural beauty of Hawaii.”

“To complement the lush greenery of the mill, I chose dark farm tables with gold Chiavari (a.k.a. Tiffany) chairs. For the flowers, I chose ivory and soft hues of blush, peach and yellow, and displayed them in gold vessels of different shapes and sizes. The overall feel of the wedding was elegant, natural and romantic.”

Tips from the bride: “You can’t have it all. Unless you’re one of the lucky few, most of us will have to stick to some sort of a budget. Pick a few things that are of utmost importance to you and splurge on those. Compromise or try to get creative on things that are less important to you. For example, I opted to have a Sound Tech instead of a DJ for the dancing portion of the wedding, and I did my own calligraphy for the place cards.

“Don’t sweat the small stuff. There is no such thing as a perfect wedding, no matter how hard you try. A lot of things didn’t go as planned for us. For example, it rained, half of the Prada logo on my wedding shoe fell off, and a picture frame broke, just to name a few. And to be honest, none of those things bothered me in the slightest. We just had a chuckle and tried to improvise on the spot. At the end of the day, just look at the big picture.”
