Behind every beautiful wedding is a story of priorities and decisions. From the gorgeous cathedral where they said their vows to the charming oaken reception hall, Darlington Estate brought this couple’s every conceivable wedding ideal to life.

This Indonesian couple living in Australia had made the decision to host their wedding in Perth, and very quickly, they found the idea of hosting their wedding in a winery with a rustic concept appealing and feasible. The estate would be private and secluded, just as they desired. The couple rolled up their sleeves and infused everything that mattered to them into the day, organising the wedding themselves and enlisting the help of a friend, Evyta Irawan of @eloqui.co, to design all the stationery. It was extra special because Evyta had also been their matchmaker! Thank you for this lovely album, Iluminen.

“It really was amazing to look around and think that all these people had travelled all the way to Perth out of love and support for us,” said the bride. “Most of our friends were from overseas – Indonesia, Hong Kong and the United States. We felt so blessed that people from different stages of our lives had all come together to celebrate with us.

“In the days leading up to the wedding, news reports confirmed that there would be a thunderstorm on our wedding day, and that made us very nervous. But thankfully, the rains only came after everyone had been seated inside. In the end, the shower created a beautiful tapestry of raindrops and cloudy skies.”

The floral arrangements were unstructured, romantic and rustic-style with a garden-inspired feel, brilliantly done by Anneliese of @signaturefloraldesign. And instead of a photobooth, a Polaroid guestbook table stood as a delightful space where guests could snap Polaroid photos and leave signed messages for the newlyweds.

Tips from the bride: “Follow wedding inspiration pages on Instagram or Pinterest. If you are confused by the myriad themes and colours palettes, just ‘like’ plenty of pictures and you will eventually identify with the style you love most.

“Just remember that no two weddings are the same. Don’t stress out on having the exact designs that you want. The truth is that choosing a suitable vendor who identifies with your style is more important than opting for the most famous or expensive ones. Do that, and leave the rest to them.

“Lastly, budget your wedding costs properly as they can blow up. Prioritise where you should spend your money. Most importantly, your wedding should be fun instead of stressful! It is okay to get rid of many unnecessary details and pretentious wedding traditions – with the approval of your family, of course.”
