For many bridal couples, the real trick is in making sure that the customary ceremony does not keep them so busy that they forget to enjoy their big day. We love how this bride embraced every special moment of her wedding, both with her new husband and her dad. Thanks, Jonathan Ong for these beautiful moments captured.

Kim: “There were too many memorable moments for sure, but the most memorable one was definitely the dance with my dad during our reception. I’ve always been a daddy’s girl so you can imagine how emotional I was when I danced with my dad to Bob Carlisle’s ‘Butterfly Kisses’. The other most memorable moment was the exchanging of vows between Jason and I. That was very special to us.

“I’ve always wanted a romantic, rustic wedding, but Jason had always dreamt of the perfect beach wedding. However, it didn’t take long to convince him to have a romantic, rustic-themed celebration when he saw our wedding venue. We both live in Melbourne, Australia but because most of our family and friends are back home, we decided to have our wedding in Malaysia and flew in our overseas crowd instead. Just a 40-minute drive from the hustle and bustle of Kuala Lumpur city, Tanarimba in Pahang is a beautiful sanctuary. The natural beauty of our venue inspired us. The tall timber pillars, glass doors, high ceiling and green surroundings were the perfect setting.

“We wanted to bring out the beauty of the venue by complementing and decorating it with lots and lots of hanging light bulbs and fresh white flowers, with a hint of blush here and there. We wanted a romantic yet casual look, and our amazing planner from Tie The Knot did a fantastic job. It looked better than the inspirations on my Pinterest board.

“We had another traditional ceremony before this, and there were so many customary things to do, we almost forgot to enjoy ourselves. So for this wedding, we made sure that it would be a casual one, and most importantly, that both of us should enjoy every single bit of the celebration. And that it was, a day where we celebrated our love with our closest and dearest, and we got to enjoy every bit of it.

“We deliberately included special details that mean something to us. A vintage bicycle was included as part of the décor because Jason used to ride his bicycle to my house when we were teenagers just to drop off gifts for me even when I wasn’t there. It was almost an hour’s journey on a bicycle. We also had authentic coconut ice cream served at our wedding during the interval between the wedding ceremony and the reception. Jason and I both love coconut ice cream and we hunt high and low for it. That was a real winner with the crowd.

“The wedding cake was made by one of my talented bridesmaids. We got our best friends and siblings to perform and present speeches. We flew in our emcee, who is also one of our closest friends, and our pastor from our local church in Melbourne, Australia to take part in our wedding. Everything was so personal; we felt that it couldn’t be any more perfect for us.”

Tips from the bride: “Our advice to other couples who are planning their wedding is to really take your time and be sure to include each other in the decision making. It means so much more when both the bride and groom are involved in the details of their wedding. I loved having Jason’s opinion when we were planning our big day. It will also help you learn things about each other that you didn’t already know. Just like a marriage, you can’t have just one person making the decisions all the time; it’s teamwork that makes a marriage work. Remember that, in the end, what matters most is the marriage, not the wedding.”
