There is almost no better place to hold a wedding in Bali than in the last retreat of an emperor, the Khayangan Estate. Personally, we love the bridesmaids in green dresses running the gatecrashing ceremony against that exotic backdrop, not to mention the tea ceremony. Totally photo-worthy.

This was indeed a celebration of love. The groom designed the wedding bands and had them custom-made in Singapore, while the bride made the DIY wedding invitations and tinned pastilles favours.

Jasmine: “It felt great seeing our family and friends who flew in from around the world to Bali. As well as the amazing view and intimate setting of having a dinner reception under a marquee in the garden with an eight-piece Cuban band.

“We wanted a theme that was fresh and vibrant with a rustic touch. The colours we used to style the wedding were quite eclectic but nature-inspired, such as grass green for the bridesmaids’ dresses and sky blue for the groomsmen’s shirts.

“I had the table centrepieces made with all local flowers, moss and pine cones. We used dried grape vines from the north of Bali for our wedding arch, with clusters of pale pink, green and beige flowers of different textures to blend everything together elegantly. We strung jasmine garlands from the trees around the estate, which looked charming and also made the whole estate wonderful.”

Tips from the bride: “Do as much research as you can for destination weddings. Be careful not to hire based on online portfolios only, as you must be sure that the service matches the quality of the product. Make sure the wedding planner you hire understands you, and can creatively turn your ideas into the real day within your budget! Be firm about your budget, and make decisions earlier rather than closer to the date. This will save you money, as you have the time to find more vendors and negotiate.

“If you’re unhappy at any stage during your wedding planning process, don’t be afraid to make the changes necessary to keep things running smoothly. We had to change our wedding planner three months before our wedding due to poor follow-up and nothing being done. It caused lots of stress, but as soon as we found another planner who was the right one, everything was brilliant and it became fun. Which is how it should be!”
