Ki-lyun is Korean and Auspen is Australian Chinese. They met in Beijing where they studied Mandarin. The couple currently resides in Hong Kong, and they are here in Kuala Lumpur for their wedding. Amazingly, Caroline, a French photographer who is currently based in Kuala Lumpur, spent the entire day conversing with the bride and the Maid of Honour in her own mother tongue. The two of them speak French fluently, and actually became best friends when they met in Paris a decade ago!

Unlike the usual garden weddings that are held at Carcosa, this one was indoors because of heavy rain. The richness of the different languages, cultures and traditions was also evident throughout the ceremony, making this wedding one of a kind.

“For our wedding we mostly wanted to show our multicultural background, for example, by selecting typically Chinese (Cantonese), Korean and Western styles in our details and clothes. We think we did a great job to incorporate all of it!”

Caroline: “I was in awe of the absolutely stunning Hanbok dress that the bride wore for the two tea ceremonies of the day. It was a silk, hand embroidered number with vibrant colours and intricate details. I really loved watching the whole process of the tea ceremony – parents and relatives were giving the couple pieces of marriage advice.”
Ki-lyun: “We loved every single moment of our wedding day but we especially enjoyed the photo sessions before the wedding as we relaxed with our friends who had come from far away – Australia, Canada, the UK and Seoul.
