Have you ever wondered what photographers do for their own nuptials if all they see week in, week out are weddings? How do they make their weddings different so it doesn’t feel like just another event? Brian Ho of thegaleria recently tied the knot with Justine, a lawyer by day and second violinist of VOX by night.

Brian is one of the pioneers of film photography in Singapore, and his wife Justine is also an avid film photographer with a mean collection of lomo cameras. They wanted their wedding to be a representation of what they love – film photography and handmade stuff. That’s how the idea of the “film canister invite” came about, along with the rest of the DIY wedding stationery and favours. The atmosphere of love and laughter was vivid throughout this set of photos. This isn’t your regular wedding or bride – read more about her dress here!

Justine: “We first had to decide on the theme of the wedding and the scale of it. Personally, I play the violin, and I have played for countless weddings since I was in school. I disliked the idea of a typical Chinese wedding – starting with the gatecrashing early in the morning to the long, drawn-out 10-course Chinese banquet. With both of us being in the wedding industry, we also baulked at the idea of a pre-wedding shoot of any sort (we are very shy people).

“So the task fell on us to come up with a simple, intimate wedding, and we chose an intimate space that had really good food – a priority on my list of considerations – and that was still unique in its own right. We ended up at The White Rabbit and loved it immediately. We ended up booking a Saturday afternoon wedding luncheon with them, and envisaged a casual wedding party rather than a formal ceremony.

Brian: “I’ve helped countless wedding couples document perhaps the most important day of their lives, and I’ve always been the man behind the lens for as long as I could remember. When it was finally my turn to settle down and, for a change, be in front of the lens, the feeling was very surreal.

“One question I’ve always been asked as a wedding photographer – who would be the photographer for my wedding? That task fell to my two associates, Benny Ong and Tony Eng, who are both excellent wedding photojournalists in their own right. In fact, over the years, I’ve had the privilege of meeting some of the best talents in the wedding industry, many of whom I regard as close friends now. I’m honoured that some of them were part of my wedding, contributing special touches in their own unique way.”
