To be honest, when we first stumbled upon this set of photos, we didn’t realise that it was a wedding in Singapore. The flowers and colours used were so rare. The photography style of Ivan Tan definitely did its magic too – the images and emotions look so effortless yet real.

It’s not often we get to see an Asian bridal couple actually relax and enjoy their wedding. We like it when the couple is involved in the décor because it seems as if their wedding is their first special project together.

From the round green and purple paper lanterns, origami cranes and crepe paper flowers, to the pretty centerpieces, colourful buntings and adorable furry green animals, every element had been carefully pieced together by the couple and their friends.

Jia Yin: “It’s hard to pin down a favourite moment – the impromptu sing-along session with the band, secretly-organised party games we weren’t told about, the heartfelt speeches from the best man Hianyi and maid of honour Jess, the endless photobooth madness… At the end of the day, we were just overjoyed that our guests enjoyed themselves.”

Huan Min: “One of my groomsmen, Dalun, surprised me by turning up at my home in the morning when he was supposed to be studying in the States. The feeling really was indescribable.

“We wanted our wedding to be not about us, but about all who have touched our lives, because without these wonderful people we would not be who we are. With the idea of a house party in mind, we chanced upon Food For Thought at Singapore Botanic Gardens and fell in love with the expansive space and wholesome home-style dishes.”

Tips from the bride: “Forget about fairytales, a wedding is a celebration of love and friendship; everything else is cosmetic. If you’re pining for the perfect solitaire and the wind in your hair, you’re setting yourself up for stress and disappointment.

“Take your time to bring together a team who shares your vision and tastes. We were deliberate in asking Ivan to be our photographer, not just because he made great photos but because his philosophy towards photography – to capture moments and interactions as they happened; no second takes – resonated with us.”
