No stone was left unturned at this beautifully conceptualised Wes Anderson-inspired wedding. Full of decorative rugs and feathers, the newlyweds paid homage to Anderson’s quirky and distinctive aesthetic, from the colour palette and the décor to even his trademark symmetry. The bohemian style and festival vibe was an unconventional choice, but what an amazing wedding it turned out to be! Thanks to ChongYee Photography for capturing all the intricate details.

Chloe: “The most memorable moment was my dad walking me down the dreamy carpet aisle to ‘Que Sera Sera’, which was sung and played live by my talented best friends. The groom cried first, then the bridesmaids, then me, followed by everyone else. The ceremony was extra meaningful and personal, as Jinn’s dad was the officiant and pronounced us husband and wife in front of our closest family and friends.

“We wanted a wedding in the woods in Malaysia where we both grew up, and somewhere with cooler weather, so Tanarimba was perfect. This bohemian dream was co-styled and brought to life by myself and Spring Cottage. Jinn and I wanted something unconventional, and I was never a fan of girly floral arrangements, so everything from the bridal bouquet to the table décor was made of dried flowers and heaps of pampas grass. We incorporated a festival vibe into the ceremony with a teepee arch and a carpet aisle. I sourced the carpets from Morocco, Urban Outfitters and Lazada, and hand carried them all back to Malaysia.

“Both Jinn and I are also big fans of Wes Anderson’s work so the wedding was inspired by his colour palette, the tables were named after his movies, and the video was heavily influenced by his style. For the reception hall, we installed layers and layers of fairy lights so it felt like we were dancing under a sky full of stars. For wedding favours we personalised wooden coasters with guests’ names, which doubled as seating cards. Other little touches included cards with fun facts about us, see-through umbrellas in the event of rain (and it’ll still look great in photos!), stone slabs for bridesmaids to stand on so their heels won’t sink into the lawn, disposable cameras so guests could help us capture the moments on film, and a snack bar filled with childhood snacks that local guests found nostalgic and overseas guests found amusing. We also threw in a fun element by offering a free night’s stay during our second reception at Shangri-la KL to the person that re-enacted our engagement shoot best. We had a Wes Anderson / ‘Moonrise Kingdom’ themed shoot in Melbourne, and brought back all the props for guests to take photos with!”

Tips from the bride: “Have the best time planning – I had tons of fun doing so! Don’t be afraid to plan out your photography shots and video content beforehand. I shared reference photos and a storyboard with my photographer, videographer and bridal party before the big day so we were all prepared and didn’t waste time with awkward poses. The result was all the beautiful photos we captured that will now become our lifetime’s memory.”
