Evonne: “One of the most memorable moments was definitely seeing Daniel standing by the altar in my dream white wedding. I had my eyes fixed on him while walking down the aisle, so much so that I was moving towards the right side as I walked!

“The weather was perfect! It had been raining every day up till two days before our wedding. Those two days were scorching hot and hazy. Daniel’s dad prayed for us after the wedding rehearsal, that we would have decent weather on our wedding day. And by God’s grace, Mother Nature smiled upon us. It meant the world to us to have our dearest family and friends, some of whom had flown in from near and far, with us on that very special day.

“Daniel has always wanted to get married in his hometown – Kota Kinabalu. He took me to Shangri-La’s Rasa Ria Resort once and I immediately fell in love with the Wedding Pavilion, which is located by the garden overlooking the beach. That was the same place where Daniel went down on one knee in his surprise marriage proposal a year later. Hence it was only fitting that we had our wedding ceremony there.

“I love flowers! We had an arch adorned with white roses, and the aisle was lined with more roses to create a romantic and dreamy atmosphere. Our wedding theme was white (my favourite colour!), complemented by hints of blush and silver.”

Tips from the bride:
1. There will come a point during the wedding planning when you’ll need to make a decision, stick to it and move on, or you’ll be running around in circles.
2. Invest in good photographers and videographers. These are the people who will capture some of the happiest moments of your life in pictures and videos that will reignite those memories for many years to come.
3. Remember that you have done all you can to make it the best wedding. When the day comes, embrace it with an open heart and have fun!

* “If you see red petals on some of the chairs, it’s because I lost my sister and her partner to the MH17 flight disaster last year. It has been a difficult year for us, and we decided to “save their seats” for them at the wedding.”

TWN: We have to admit we choked up a little when we read the note at the end. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. As fellow Malaysians, we sympathise with your loss and often wonder what has become of the families affected by the disaster. We’re so happy to see smiles on all your faces. God bless!
