Most couples struggle with the unpredictable weather in Malaysia, but of late, the haze has been an even bigger threat. This happened in the weeks leading up to the wedding, but it ended up being a better story, which we’ll leave to the groom to share. Thanks, Anna-Rina, for sharing this lovely set with us.

Wai Kit: “The hardest thing to forget about our wedding was the unusual (ideal) weather! Just weeks prior to the big day, our city was clouded in haze – it was even hazardous at certain towns/districts. Coupled with pouring rain days before the wedding, it seemed that it would certainly rain during our garden ceremony and bridal procession.

“Thankfully, none of those things happened. It was sunny and clear throughout our wedding ceremony! It meant a lot to us because we had invested a lot of time and effort into our one and only day. It also reminded us that God works wonders that are beyond us.

“We had planned a garden wedding with hints of rustic. We tediously planned our wedding processes, and agreed that Equatorial Hotel, Bangi, was one of the most fitting places to accommodate our ceremony, tea session and dinner reception. We wanted a pretty place, but we also prioritised convenience and comfort for our families and friends. Our colours were white, green and a dash of gold. Colours that we felt were timeless, fitting for a garden ceremony yet elegant without looking highbrow.

“We spent countless nights sourcing and making DIY decorations and gifts. As much as we stressed the details, the little imperfections made the day personal and real to us. We didn’t want to regret not doing extra because we could only do it once. It need not carry a heavy price tag, but it had to be special.

“The bride wore a customised ivory silk chiffon dress that flowed nicely and that appeared translucent under the sunlight. The top was covered with lace and sequins, and there was a cross wrap around the waist. The dress was held up by a lacy strap on the shoulder. The groom wore a dark blue suit with a checkered shirt and denim tie to match the casual garden setting. Redwing boots added to the rustic theme. The groomsmen wore white and brown, and the bridesmaids, white.”

Tips from the groom: “Do your research and know what you’re paying for.”
