We were absolutely impressed by this couple’s creativity in putting together the biggest day of their lives – a gorgeous DIY wedding ceremony at St Ignatius Church in Petaling Jaya, followed by a fancy dinner reception on the rooftop of their condominium. Thank you for these amazing captures, Munkeat Photography!

Their plan was to keep the wedding simple, timeless and beautiful. The ceremony venue was also where they had both gotten baptised so it was definitely the place for this incredible milestone. The refreshing combo of pink and white flowers had been done by the church, and the couple rented a shiny blue Kombi for their wedding car, complete with DIY grey and white tulle stretching from the front to the back.

“My most memorable moment was definitely our first glimpse of each other. I just couldn’t wait for him to see me in my gown. When he turned around and saw me, I couldn’t contain my happy tears. As I looked into his eyes, I was immensely grateful to have finally found the one to share the rest of my life with. I could see through his eyes his love for me, and I was blessed by it. I will always go back to this moment and relive it.”

As it turned out, the rooftop lounge was the perfect venue for the newlyweds’ intimate dinner reception. The classy palette of green, white and silver complemented the artificial flower arch, and the couple also rented a wooden stand with fairy lights for photos. The artificial flowers were as beautiful as they were practical, for Eve and Joseph were able to reuse them for their second wedding reception in their hometown. The bride designed and printed the wedding invitations herself, and the couple also gave their guests customised champagne glasses and power banks.

Tips from the bride: “If you want to plan your own wedding, be clear about what you want. Create a vision board with your fiancé, and don’t stray too far from it. Limit your options. Write down everything; trust me, you will forget many things. Planning your own wedding might feel overwhelming and lonely sometimes, but remember that friends and family are actually just waiting for you to ask them for help. Don’t sweat the small stuff, just try to be open and accept it when things don’t go as planned. Remember to have fun and enjoy!

“I Googled everything for my wedding, and bought stuff from Taobao, Shopee and ASOS. Plan ahead when buying from online stores, read reviews from previous buyers, and chat with the seller before making a purchase. And don’t forget to budget for shipping costs, as that can be quite expensive.”
