Most Chinese wedding customs have been modernised but some traditions still remain, such as the tea ceremony and the gate-crashing ceremony, where the groom picks up the bride. These are, without a doubt, the most sentimental and joyous aspects of the whole day. The gatecrashing ceremony fills the house with a lot of laughter as both sides of the family get acquainted with one another through ice-breaker games; while the tea ceremony is a traditional and sweet way of introducing the new family member to each side.

Here, we love how Rachel was resplendent in her ‘kua’ and how charming Chris looked in his traditional Chinese outfit, plus that beautiful red flower wall. Many thanks to WeFreeze Photography for capturing the joy of such a wonderful day, perfectly complemented by the beautiful stylings of Rachel’s own team, Pathway Events & Design. Do check out their elegant blue and gold wedding reception too; we promise you it is Pinterest-worthy.

Rachel: “Every part of the day was very memorable to us! It was the best day of our lives. But some moments that do stick out were during the tea ceremony; our parents and siblings had tears in their eyes, as it was quite a sentimental moment for us all. And our ROM ceremony where we exchanged our vows and rings was indeed a very emotional moment as we both have been through thick and thin together.”

Chris: “Since we were going for the Western look in the evening, we opted for traditional Chinese outfits for the morning ceremony. After all, it’s a Chinese custom and we thought it’d be good to go back to our roots. Moreover, we don’t get to wear such attire every day.”
