The Wedding Notebook Magazine April 2021 – Issue 34

Fuss-free and light-hearted weddings take centre stage this issue, as we share stories of couples who kept things intimate with a small reception – or ditched their reception in favour of a photography session. When it comes to wedding venues, your imagination is your limit, from the traditional cathedral or ballroom to a boutique hotel or even the Tipi Tent at Night Safari in Singapore. In all our stories, each couple found beautiful ways to make the venue their own with simple additions. As for bridal portraits, the pandemic’s travel restrictions have meant that couples are limited to destinations within their own countries, but do not despair. See how photographers…

A Chic, Nature-Filled, Dusty Blue Wedding at Tamarind Springs, KL

Weddings don’t always have to be formal affairs, you can get all dolled up for a low-key celebration too. Here, we love the combination of a dusty blue colour palette and wooden textures, surrounded by lush greenery and elegant blooms. The bridal couple also added personal touches in the form of a sports jersey guestbook and a delectable gelato stand featuring Malaysian flavours. Many thanks to Zach Chin of MunKeat Studios for this delightful set of wedding photos! Jocelyn: “Our highlights of the day were multiple tear-jerking speeches, as well as a surprise video from my dad. He had spent several months practising and recording a song! “We have always…

A White and Green Minimalist Elegant Wedding at Metal Bees

Minimalist elegance is a popular wedding theme for good reason. Clean cut and semi-industrial spaces like Metal Bees Production House in Petaling Jaya make brilliant venues for couples who, like these lovebirds, desire to keep things in perspective by spending less time on prep and more time on preparing for their marriage. Thank you for these superb shots, Louis Gan of MunKeat Studio!

An Elegant Wedding with Loved Ones and a Furbaby at ACME Bar & Coffee, Troika

We love minimalist wedding themes for the simple reason that they are sensible and tasteful, and they make wonderful pictures without consuming too much of the couple’s energy during the wedding planning. Thanks for these amazing shots, Andrew Chow of Munkeat Studio!

The bride wanted something simple yet elegant, without overly bold décor. The couple loved the vibe at ACME Bar & Coffee, Troika, not just for its cosy setting complete with fairy lights and a really swanky feel, but also for the fact that they were allowed to have their precious furbaby join in the ceremony.

A DIY Ethereal Luxe Tropical Wedding at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa Penang

We love the warmth and thought poured into this beautiful wedding at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa Penang. To celebrate the beginning of the rest of their lives together, they chose the theme of “ethereal luxe tropical”, a soothing and gorgeous colour palette with intimate details that highlighted the people and parts of their lives that they cared about. We were deeply moved by the way they left a note on a chair for a parent who was not there. What a beautiful gesture to honour the love of a father. Thanks for these brilliant captures, MunKeat Studio!

Dreamy and Passionate Bridal Portraits at the Sand Dunes in Malacca

Sometimes bridal portraits can appear to be more than just a snapshot of two newlyweds-to-be; they can look as dreamy and professional as an editorial shoot. For these newlyweds, it didn’t matter what the backdrop was – from the sand dunes of Pantai Klebang, Malacca, to the roads of KL and in a cosy coffee shop, it was clear all they had were eyes for each other, and that’s what truly mattered. Many thanks to Jasmine. A Photography for capturing these stolen moments – it’s amazing to freeze a moment of intimacy that perfectly encapsulates this couple’s engagement.

Elegant Wedding With a Touch of Penang Nyonya Charm at Seven Terraces, Georgetown

We adore the old fashioned Penang Nyonya elements in this exquisite wedding, which took place at Seven Terraces in Georgetown, Penang. The cosy venue featured charming heritage tones as the couple complemented the existing décor with modern touches – a sassy black lace ‘qipao’ to match the groom’s necktie of black and mahogany stripes, as well as a pale pink bouquet. Thanks for these superb shots, Yung Yaw and Manoj of Mun Keat Studio!
